Diane, I am soooooooo sorry about Rory!

Maureen...you were reading my mind!

I have to add our story...my husband is soooo allergic to animals (and many other things) that I just knew that we would NEVER get a dog...but one Christmas, Dave's sister visited and said that she wanted a Labradoodle...of course, we had never heard of them and thought the name was silly...but she told me about the non-allergenic claim...and that got me thinking...so I searched...I found some beautiful Aussie Multigens in Oregon and I put a $500 down payment on a future litter...

Since the dog would cost $2500 (you will soon see how much I have learned...) I thought we'd ask to keep the pup intact to "recoup" some of the costs...plus we always wanted to donate to guide dog organizations.

See? I told you I was clueless! Well, when I mentioned this to the breeder she said that an intact female would cost $9000 and an intact male would be between $5000 and $7000...after I picked myself up off of the floor...I started really researching this and I found out about ILA and spoke with some great breeders who helped me see what I was getting in to...still we wanted to breed.

Without boring you with all the rest of the details, we found a female F1(intact) in southern CA...we lost our $500 deposit in Oregon, and decided to get two littermates (my husband didn't want them to be lonely.)

We drove 7 hours, stayed in a hotel, drove back with our 2 sweethearts (another 7 hours.)

Since then, my husband has become the delivery driver! He has (3 times) delivered puppies to southern CA...and once to Washington state (a 18 hour trip one way!)

He has driven to the airport twice to pick up puppies, a 6 hour total trip...

All of this traveling is on his only days off...but he loves the dogs and will do anything for them! (And, now we have 5 adult dogs in our house...all sharing our bedroom and our bed! And...we couldn't be happier.)

Hey Diane.....remember my dh that you were visiting with at the romp. Well, did you know that he has an airplane and can fly you to pick up a dog? He loves to do that sort of thing.

Just thought I would put one more thought in your head. Wink

Goodness what a sweet offer! We will most certaintly consider that. Now something for you to consider: our Eagle Lake house is wonderful (we think.) We would love to have you up to visit. --There is a landing strip just slightly away from our house. It is a wonderful place for boys and dogs!
Here is our house--my husband built it and we're quite proud of it!

And here's goofy-bug himself at the lake!

HEY! I would LOVE to meet Vicky's Steve! And I just happen to be about 10-14 days from having doodles born..... 10 min. from the biz-jet airport for Denver.... Wink BUT I would have to insist for Vicky and the kids to come and meet the rest of our family! Very Happy

Diane, your lake house makes me positively DROOL! {I will not covet... I will not covet...I will not covet....}

Doesn't Jac's hubby sound like a total sweetheart doing all that driving?

Hey Jac, any signs of your girls going fertile yet? Smile

Thank you all for your support. My husband is not . . . hmmm . . . easy to participate in the dog game--that's up to me; when he has a dog, he loves it like a child. There is nothing he wouldn't do for Dakota (although I had to almost pitch a fit to get Dakota because we lost our Lab and I'm not good dogless.) I WILL check on the doodle in San Clemente--and Gene has extended his appreciation and admiration for all of the helpful people on this site. I WILL be in touch. --Today is all about buying a new truck . . .

Now about our lake house--what a stressful experience that was! Since we were on a limited budget (always double what you EXPECT to spend!!), Gene was gone every week day for two years to build it. I am very delighted with MY success (the decorating) because my budget was cut to zero after we so over expended on the house. I decorated through EBAY, Collections Etc, and other discount magazines. You would be AMAZED what you can get for next to nothing if you are persistant! I always get wonderful compliments on the decor and it was all so relatively inexpensive!

your home is beautiful though it looks a little chilly - lol!
just kidding seeing it makes me miss montana a bit here is a view from my backyard in montana, not a great pic but you get the idea. I miss the mountains.

if you fly you can always head this way too (now I am in Illinois! Smile See what this litter has in store Smile here is a previous that would have worked for lab like, rare but cute!! Cool

I understand completely about resistant husbands, I can't tell you how many times I have been told no more dogs - and you should have been a fly on the wall during last months "please can't I get a new pup to expand my breeding program" talk Mad Razz Wink so now we have a new pup lol and we have caught up to Jac I think though we are not trying too!! 5 indoor dogs (but one is four pounds so does he really count?!) and when a dog is sick or stuck or needs something who is the first to help? my husband Smile

Oh, Moviestar--what a love of a dog!!

And Jac, most of my inside pics were 35mm and not so easy to share, but when we are up next week, I will take many more in digital format. I will send you thousands, well maybe hundreds -- or at least four or five!! I am proud of my husband and what he accomplished. And I'm kind of happy about what I did too--even though it was on a shoe string budget; I'll let you all decide! And we have an open door policy--whenever we are up, any of you are welcome up also!

Shannon
It is so sweet of you to keep in touch! My husband and I talked lenghtly about the first available pup you found. We have decided to defer for now, but only for now! My step-son has Sparky, the entire problem here, and he (Sean, my step-son) was so jealous of Rory coming into our house and changing the relationship between Sparky and Dakota, so we have decided to wait. Sparky is getting up in years--he is either 9 or 10-Sean didn't note his birth year. If genetics play, his fater lived to be 12, so we decided not to stir things up while Sparky is part of our "extended" family. But I do pledge that we will get another Labradoodle and it will be "adopted" from a shelter--I will be in touch!
