Dribble Peeing Help

Over the past week our 10 week old Murhpy had been doing very well. He actually went to the door on about 4 occasions letting is know he had to go out and hadn't peed on the floor. That was until last night, all of a sudden he started peeing everywhere 5 times to be exact over the evening, you know that type of pee when they walk and pee, impressive, but a mess. Anyway, I initially thought medical problem... urinary track infection etc. however when we got up this morning at our usual 0500 his crate was dry as a bone. So much for the medical idea. If you or anybody else has had this let me know if it stopped or what you did to handle it. I understand he is still a baby but he was doing so well.

Mmmm. I would still try to catch a sample and take it to the vet. The dribbling while walking sounds like a UTI to me. Even with the dry crate this morning....(maybe he was empty). Of course, it may just be a temporary puppy thing, but if he does it again today, I'd definitely get him checked out.

I agree with Lisa, this seems to be medical. The possible reason his crate is dry is because he only has problem controlling his bladder when he is mobile. I don't know, of course, I am just guessing...but if he has been really good so far and all of a sudden is peeing that much, I'd say take a ladle, get a sample to your vet for evaluation.

My Casey has done that on a few ocassions. The first time he did I wondered about a UTI (which came out negative). After talking with the vet we decided that it was a punishment (of sorts). In particular the first time he did that was because we had left for the weekend to attend my sons basketball tournament out of town. My brother stayed with Casey and had no problems. However, upon return Casey proceeded to walk and pee right across the living room floor...right in front of us. Which he did twice that night and twice the next day. We had another day when we were just gone all day (my brother again took care of Casey and had no problem) but when we returned later than night, Casey again treated us to his impressive showmanship. So in other words for us it was just a "You left me, now I will show you!" But I think he is finally getting over that and getting used to the idea that once in a while we will be gone because we left this past weekend and when we returned home he was very excited to see us and did not once perform any welcome home acts. So long story short I would always wonder about medical but if it turns out negative (as it did in Casey's case) just keep in mind the fact that are wonderful Doods are very smart!!!! Laughing

Hi,
I am currently treating my baby for a urinary tract infection and does what you have described frequently. So I would certainly take a sample in. FYI- Urine samples are only good for 1 hour. So get it and take it right in...Good Luck

You shouldn't take the sample yourself - just bring the dog in to the vet and they will take the sample. It has to be done in a sterile way, and only vets can do that. Otherwise there's no way of guarantueing whatever germs they find didnt get in there while you were collecting the sample.

Trust me, a dog with UTI (mine has had two now) will pee any chance he/she gets and vets know how to do this properly...

Ah, the art of getting a urine sample! I used to be a vet tech and lots of people would just bring their dogs in and we would get it for them. But if you want to do it yourself, just get a clean container (we used plastic tupperware/rubbermaid) and stick it under them while they're peeing! I think the short, wide containers work the best. And as someone else said, you should get the urine to the vet fairly quick because it should be fresh. And yes, your neighbors/family will think you are crazy for chasing the dog around with a tupperware container while shouting "Come on, PEE"!

Not easy... My method was to take a tray like object flat with sides-not too big or small- and when my puppy went to pee (he still squats) i would slide it under him to catch it. Then i would put it into a plastic or paper cup to take to the vet... Just make sure what ever you use is as clean as you can possibly make it so you don't get a false positive. Unfortunatly, my baby UTI didn't respond to the general antibiotic so we had to take him in and they had to extract urine directly from his bladder by inserting a tube into his urethra to be cultured, which needless to say he didn't like at all...but i don't think this happens too often..

Hey Michael- just read your response. They will take a sterile sample (by drawing urine from the bladder with a syringe) only if they are going to send the urine to a lab or if they cannot get a sample from the pet. If they are going to run an in-house urinalysis, they will just get them to pee in a clean container- doesn't have to be sterile.
