All of my babies are in their new homes and have been cleared by their new vets. One of the boys was sent from the vet to a veterinary opthalmologist because the vet said that Jax was partially blind, and didn't have normal pupil reaction.
To have a severe problem like this at 8 weeks of age of course my first thought was that it had to be genetic and I would have to warn the other families; make some refunds; help pay for treatment, etc. I've been very worried for the past 2 days! So the opthalmologist said Jax is perfectly normal! He couldn't see any evidence of what the original vet was concerned about. Jax's family is of course relieved as they're already very attached to him and said they were not giving up on him even if he was totally blind. Luckily as soon as they contacted me I sent their vet a copy of the DNA reports which eliminated 4 genetic eye problems right away. I also reassured them that I'd be standing behind my guarantee to help pay for treatment as needed. So now that it was all a false alarm the family has said they've told everyone who will listen how thrilled they are with my response. It's been a wild ride but I'm glad to know he went to such a caring, loving home.

KUDOS to you for all you do for your puppies. Wouldn't the dog world be a wonderful place if all breeders were as caring and supportive as you. Your puppies and their forever families are indeed blessed.
Thank you for all that you do for your Doodles! |

That was quite a scare, both for the new owners and you. I'm glad it turned out to be a false alarm but I can just imagine what they were feeling. Good job responding as you did.. but I had no doubts you would..

Tink - what a lovely breeder you are...I can quite see why Jax's family are impressed with you!

Thanks all, but it was ME who was impressed. This family was so determined to do whatever it took to keep Jax safe and well. It just warmed my heart when they immediately said that they wouldn't even consider returning him or giving him up if he did prove to have problems.
I also have to point out that if it weren't for this site and the things I've learned from others here I might not have had the testing done or known how to respond in a responsible way. So the real Kudos goes to those who help teach and support each other here. It was here that I learned about the DNA testing and was encouraged to have it done.

Tink.........very happy to hear puppy is okay, and this is the 2nd post about a vet misdiagnosing eyesight.
the DNA testing is awesome helps rule out so much and for those that arent' aware Pawsitive ID is doing PRCD testing again and its great to hear how well you and the parents of this doodle worked together on this.
