I was going to write what hydesmom wrote...

I think that if you want to allow your dog on the furniture, that's great...but teach the dog only to come onto the furniture by invitation.

I do think you can train them to stay off when you want them to and allow them on at specific times. I use a throw to keep off the dirt if they have it on their paws and hair.

But like someone said who knows what they do when your gone unless you crate them. I can just see my dogs see me getting my purse and see the door shut and they look at each other and say run for the couch Mom's gone.

I'm pretty sure they wait until the door clicks shut and then rush over to the couchs they aren't supposed to be on...laughing all the way!

Thanks all. I've been experimenting with inviting Doc up. I just haven't broached the subject with my husband yet. He would initially be totally against it, but, he usually gives in.

I don't mind my dogs being on the furniture but my husband isn't crazy about it. It's so funny though because I will go out to start chores and forget something and come thru the kitchen door and there is Mikko sitting in the big red leather chair with his head up on the back of the chair and a look like "Uh oh, I'm had"

Mikko never offers to get on the furniture until we go outside, Archie on the other hand will get up on the ottoman of the red chair and lay down whenever he wants. He knows he's just too cute and mom won't make him get down, and he's right, I won't

hahahaha...that is so cute, Diane!
When I was a young girl, we had a dog that was never allowed in the living room...but she was not locked up when we left...so when we got home, Ginger would be at the door, smiling innocently...and the rocking chair in the living room would be gently rocking back and forth.

How about the "Uh oh...I'm busted look." We see that on Archie quite a bit.

I dont care if my dogs get on the couch but my mom lets her yorkie and not her doodle so when I go to let them out I sneak around back and there they are both dogs on one couch curled in a ball!!! Molly the doodle doesnt fly off when she sees me she kinda like melts off the sofa like maybe if she is real slow about I may not notice and tell on her

If I go to bed early before my husband the dogs come in and get on the bed with me and then when he comes in they all lay there like I'm really sleeping so don't wake. It's like they think if they lay still enough he won't make them get down. Gracie and Johnson will get right down Tejas on the other hand will move over as close to me as he can get I guess he thinks if he gets real close dad can't reach him and he'll get to stay. They are so funny.
