I am supposed to pick up my puppy on Tuesday, I called the breeder today to confirm the time and he informed me that the puppy, a little girl, has an inguinal hernia. It is between her legs. She has been to the vet and she is going to have surgery next week to correct it. She will be 8 1/2 weeks old. The breeder said that it is a simple procedure and there would be no long term effects. The vet is seeing her on Monday and I can talk to him directly about it.
We've never had a dog before and I'm nervous as it is. We picked this little girl out at 3 weeks and have been looking at photos of her on facebook for the last month. We've fallen in love with her, but I don't want to end up with a dog that will have health problems. The breeder said we can keep her, choose another puppy or get our deposit back. I'm not sure what to do. Any advice??? Here she is at a couple of weeks old.

I checked with my vet and he said it is a simple procedure with no long term health concerns. My vet suggested getting her spayed at the same time. The breeder's vet said she is too young so they are not going to do it. The surgery is scheduled for Wednesday. The breeders vet is going to call me afterwards to let me know how everything goes. We left the date open as to when we are going to get her. Whenever she is healed and active we'll get her. I'm so glad this is going to work out. We really have our hearts set on her.

My last poodle had this and a simple procedure fixed it and he was just fine. Scared me as I was only 18 when I got him, but he lived a long and heathy life...I picked him out at 4 weeks and watched him grow until I could bring him home, just like you...
I think everything will be fine |

Charlie had her surgery today. It went well she doesn't even have external stitches or a scar. She was sent home a few hours after the surgery. They are going to keep her an extra week. I should get her next Wednesday. Here is another pic, 8 weeks. She is very tiny.

She is 15 weeks old now and doing great. There is no visible scar from the surgery. She is such a sweet little girl. We just finished puppy kindergarten and she was fantastic. I can't imagine life without her, she is such a great addition to the family.
