Default Comment made at PetSmart

I went back to PetSmart get a few more things for my Max. I spot a Goldendoodle or is that a Labradoodle. I walk over say your dog is beautiful is that a Goldendoodle? She says yes but not super happy about it. I asked what kind of brush do you use, etc. We don't brush him because its too much work, he gets matted alot and we keep him short. I ask what generation is he? She has no clue. She precedes to tell me he is super hyper and a lot of work. Obedience class after obedience class and nothing is working. She says to me, I hope you are ready and be aware of what you are getting into. She says I picked the most mellow dog and she said he is out of control. I was really disappointed by her comments. Max is a F1b and he has an English Lab and Standard Poodle in him. The parents were on the site and very calm. My breeder, breeds for Temperament. It seems the Goldendoodles are more energetic as I have read and chose to go with the Labradoodles. Curious what your thoughts are on this experience? And by no means, am I backing out of getting Max.

Sounds like a disgruntled owner to me. Have you ever had a puppy before? If so, the labradoodle is no different, besides from maybe being abit smarter then some. EVERY puppy is a hand full, and has tons of energy. Its how persistent the owner is in training the dog, as to how they act when they grow up. Just from her comments about how "its too much work" to brush her dog, I would say she probably isnt very persistent in training, if at all. Taking your dog to an obedience class does absolutely NO GOOD if you dont follow through with what you learned in that hour long class, and continue to work on it at home. Your fine my friend. You have made a very good choice in puppy!

Wow, I agree that she sounds disgruntled. My puppy is 5+ mos and yes, she can be an insane demon!! She jumps on me (and my kids) and sometimes doesn't come when called and has dug a few trenches in the backyard. I think some of her crazy behaviors she picks up on from us and our occasionally chaotic household. But she is also smart and super loveable. Puppies by nature are not always calm. I have heard from several lab owners that a lab's puppy stage is longer than a lot of other breeds. A daily walk definitely helps! We wouldn't trade our Stella for anything!!

I agree. I look at puppies like babies. They go thru stages and right now my 3 1/2 year old is loud, energetic, and doesn't listen very well at times But I am not going to give her away. But I keep reinforcing the same guidance, no hitting, you have to share your toys etc. Puppies can have separation anxiety like kids, and you can also create bad habits with dogs just like kids. Sleeping in bed with them, letting them on the couch or jump on people. I am approaching it the same way. Max is going to obedience classes at the end of November and I cannot wait. I think its rewarding when people see how well behaved your dog is. Its a reflection of you, just like your kids are! I will get off my soap box now!

haha Maximo your very correct! When we had our old dog, people would be amazed at how well he would heel, leash loose. No tugging or pulling, or taking off after things. When they were getting drug down the street by there dog(s). Bailey is getting better at it also, but she has a LONG ways to go! haha.

Your going to make an awesome dog out of Max. You have all the right attitude!

With an attitude like that, it's no wonder she has a doodle that she described!!
Poor doodle!!

Seems that some people need a License to have a child or a dog! grrrrr

Bogart is also 1/2 English Yellow Lab. Mellow Yellow when he wants to be or has to be........just like the Yellow Labs in some movies!
THEN, when allowed, he acts like a real dog......playful & so energetic!

THE QUESTION TO ASK IS "DID YOU GET YOUR DOG FROM A PUPPY STORE?"
Puppy mills could care less about health and lalstly actual temperaments of their breeding slaves.

i did nt respond earlier cuz i don t like critizing parents..

i hope by now the owner of the GD has got some kinda clue..

if she was nt willing to brush the coat cuz it was too much work..i can t see the same individual taking time to properly train the dog..it s like sending a child to school and expect the teachers to do all the work..

Obedience class s are for the purpose of training owers..and owner s use this knowledge to train their dogs..

a dog will learn from the alpha..when dogs depend on you for their food, shelter and protection..they ll do just about anything to make you happy..

I think the owner does not know what she is saying. LOL! She just wants to sell the dog.
