New baby

We just got a new baby (Bree) who is about 15 weeks old. She is very head strong. She knows she has to go pee and poop outside but if she is in the house and doesn't feel like it, she will just pee where she is. How can we break her of this? We leave the door partially open so she can go out.

Also she has started eating her poo - any suggestions on how to stop this?

Once they start going in the house, it is really hard to get them to go outside especially if you have carpet. Using Natures Miracle will help to get the smell out of the carpet. A puppy has to be taught to go outside, just leaving the door open doesn't tell the puppy anything, they still need to be taught. Crate training is the best way to housebreak a puppy. There is a lot of information on the internet on ways to crate train. You can also tether the puppy to you, that way, you will be able to correct him before it becomes a problem.

Kim I have puppy and crate training is the best way, however it as to be done right. When you crate the puppy ( we only do it at night when we go to bed) you need to take the puppy right out to the spot you want them to go potty. After they go make it something special, praise them and give them a treat. Before long they will be doing it on there own.

This morning we let Gracey out of her crate and I did not take her out, she went out on her own.

Be paitent with them as they are just like kids and it takes time but once they have it they will always go out when they need to.

We are crate training the puppy and we do take her out on a leash and show her where to potty. She goes where I take her but then will come back in and just squat and pee again in the house. I know she is young and I will keep working with her.

Hi Kim, it sounds like she may have a urinary tract infection. My Archie did the same thing, I took him to the vet and sure enough, he had a UTI. I think a trip to the vet might help in this case, good luck.

Hi Kim, welcome.

Good advice has already been given to you...I agree with Diane, have your pup checked for medical issues...sometimes this is why they potty inside.

Then, if you know she is healthy, continue crate training and don't let her run in the house unless you can watch her 24/7...really!

You could tether her to you and that way you are aware of every thing she does and can be on time with correction.

Although you are crate training, here is a really good article that explains how to correctly crate train...it never hurts to get more info:
