Hello all,
So I'm in a bit of trouble as my parents have a labradoodle that my brothers and I love named Bear. Now that my brothers and I are moved out of the house, my parents won't let Bear into living room because of this odor that he recently has started emitting. The vet has told my parents that it is most likely because he is allergic to his food. For some reason my parents haven't taken this advice seriously, so I have taken it upon myself to find some food that he can eat and eliminate the odor. I feel bad that Bear is always banished to the kitchen area and if the odor subsides, he'd be allowed to come into the living room which is where we all hang out when we're home. My parents currently buy Beneful Healthy Radiance for Bear, which contains salmon. I've heard that Kangaroo food is usually a good alternative for dogs with allergens. Is that the right food choice, and if so, where can I find it for relatively cheap so my parents will be up for the idea? I am trying to save my dog from a life where he's always banished from where the people who love him are. Thanks so much |

WELCOME TO THE FORUM!
What a sad story! I just haven't heard of a doodle having odor like you describe. They usually don't even have a doggy odor when wet! I'm not sure of the food, but perhaps the salmon is making poor Bear smell fish-like. ![]() I use Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. I'm not familiar with the kangarood meat and most other foods. Hope someone can help!

Hi!! Listening to your story I had a thought. A couple months ago Molly (0ur 13 month old doodle) had a foul odor and I thought "oh geesh she needs a bath". After bathing her and it was still there we realized she had an ear infection. It was a yeast infection and sure enough when it started being treated the odor went away. It may not be the case but I just wanted to make sure you checked for that. It's true, they don't seem to have a doggy smell ever, so it's curious as to why it's happening. If it's truely allergies check the food ingredient list. Grains are a common allergy. Hope this helps a little!!

i was about to mention ear infections too..it s a pain to clean out, then having to remove the hair in the ear..but, once that s done and the infection has cleared..it easy to maintain..
Toby gets a rinse atleast 3 times a week.. the other issue could be grooming..are there matts?..i ve seen dogs that are not brushed or combed out regularly..and the matts would contain all kinds of nasty stuff..including dog poo.. |

Yes, my bet is on the ear infection aswell!
In our last litter my sister kept one of the puppies. They are now 7 months, and he had the beginning of an ear infection and he smells real bad, a really strong doggy odor. I would check his ears first, before changing food. The vet giives you ear drops and then all you have to do is to keep up with cleaning the ars and removing hair and it should be easy to keep up if he doesnt have a chronic (?spelling) ear infection. Does he shake his head alot? Scratch his ears and head alot? |

Where is the smell coming from? Is it from his mouth, ears or the hind area? It can be anal glands.
