OMG!!! I changed the title of this post, Lynne...this is something that everyone needs to see! I had a bark collar malfunction and I know how easily that can happen...ours was only a continuous spray of citronella (horrible as it was) but nothing compared to this.

Thank you for sharing...while it is true that this is not the most common outcome, it can happen...and people need to factor that in when they are considering a fence. So sad...

Those poor dogs, I feel so bad for them. What stupid owners. Water + electricity..... Duh. And dont leave your dog outside unattended, with or without a fence. You never know who will mess with, hurt, feed, or steal your family member. Sheesh. I think that is just as important message as the collar. The training method described, animal cruelty and should be punished by law. The concept of an elecronic collar, or even a live wire livestock fence is not in and of it self a terrible thing, but in the hands of idiots, or uncaring people, it is devastating.

That's the problem...first, that the manufacturers don't TELL people about the potential dangers and precautions and secondly, that they don't require some sort of human training to use them (beyond telling them how to teach the dog). The manufacturer needs to take some accountability here...

I was looking at the collars at Petsmart the other night waiting for class to start and there is a non-water proof version and a water proof version that is more expensive. Why do they even offer a non-water proof version (electricity and water?).In an idea world there would be training and a test before owning a dog, having kids, and not just for driving a car.
