Good luck Nancy. The poor little guy, its frustrating that this didnt need to happen if they just followed directions. What did they do wrong? How did they create the food aggression? Did they not feed him enough?

Nope they didnt feed him enough ,
the way we recommend is free feeding so they dont get hungry, or devolpe food agression,,, they are feeding once a day, They didnt start off as we recommended , sitting by his bowl when his was eating at a younger age, petting, having him share correcting when small so not to let him think he is boss this dog has figured them out, and has no respect for them, NO training, or consistancy in training from what i am gathering, This is a Aussiedoodle, if trained and interacted with they do NOT act like this,, im beside myself People!!!!, having a trainer coming in to train your dog and YOU not being consistant in the Training is like throwing your money out the window not to mention you are not doing any favors for a pup this guy is beautiful he is a Sable and out of 2 of my best dogs!!! this is jest ridiculous!!! |

I am just besides myself - how ABSOLUTELY maddening!!!! BUT I would like to say - you're a terrific breeder! I think it's wonderful how much you care about this guy.
And you're right, all behaviours that should not have happened in the first place - and this poor guy is the one who ultimately suffers! I am glad they contacted you though for help with rehoming. Sorry I can't be of any help - |

god gave me the ability to do what i do, and it is my responsibility to do what i can do ,even when its the owners fault,
Im in tears, i just am spitting nails,,LOL how hard is it to figure out that if you feed once a day and not free feed that OF COURSE the dog will be hungry and agressive towards food, especially if there is no structure respect etc,, grrrrrrrrrr,,, I need help if any thing just spreading the word, of course i will be screening everyone and folks do need to be in VA NC or surrounding area, and ready to commit no matter what,, heck not asking for much am i,, jeszzzz |

No you're not asking for to much! I can not BELIEVE a vet recommended that . . OOOO WAIT YES I CAN, because a vet (that I do not use) has told me the exact same thing. Per vet: puppies feed 2 to 3 times a day - adult dogs once a day. Also per vet: free feeding = fat dog because they will just 'graze' throughout the day. Every vet I have ever seen has a differing opinion on feeding, what's good/what's not. You'd think these people would listen to you since you have experience with the type of dog they were bringing home, or at LEAST given you a call and said 'hey, this is what our vet said, any insight?'
How sad for this little fella!! I can't believe the "owners" let him get so out of hand that the only possible solution is rehoming him. I mean you see a undesired trait, such as food aggression, you work towards correcting it consistently. I hope you find a terrific home ASAP!! |

Nancy,
I am so sorry you have to find a new home for one of your babies. I wish I could take him in ...We have always left food out all day in a self feeder for our dogs. They all have different preferences and times during the day when they are hungry..and they usually just take a small mouthfull, chew, swallow, and walk away....Kozmo our ( Standard Poddle) will just eat at Night time and in small amts...He will not eat at all during the day time....I think he knows if he is active and has a full stomach , he feels it as pain..so he is smart..Kelsey feeds in small amts all day long as well as MOnet & Finnegan....no aggression ever....We still will pet them and talk to their faces when they eat also to ensure it continues... Sometimes I prepeare chicken and kibble with chicken and rice soup etc.. and they will sometimes let each other nibble intot heir bowls when they have finished their own..and still no growling...kelsey likes to share..... Any way hopefully someone will adopt your Aussie doodle soon..... Martha

thanks
Actually free feeding is safest for a dog if raised that way they do not gourge themselves, takes a few days to get a older pup or dog on free feeding but they too can be taught to eat that way My aussiedoodle pups normally are sold before they are 8weeks old, things are going great here, hope they are going well for you as well |
