I'm not really sure. My mom built one for her labs. Turned out to be cheaper than buying one especially since they had left-over building material from their house. Actually it's really nice, shingled roof and brick siding. LOL It matches her home.

Our house has a dog house built outside made out of plywood and shingles. It was there when we bought the house and we have never used it (previous owners had a Rodesian), we keep the doods inside at night and the yard is fenced during the day if they are outside without us. I would think you could get some plywood and 2 x 4's and shingles for cheaper than buying one, but you have to have to handy skills to buid one. We visited an australian cattledog rescue that had a doodle for rehoming when we were looking for second dog. We didnt end up getting that dood, we got Gus instead from another rescue, but they had 3 dozen ACD's, each with the igloo style house tied to a post. They seemed to be survivng fine. Is that the kind of house you are talking about?

depending on how energenic you are..you can make a pretty nice one..even insulate the walls if you want..
using a pallet as a base..and a big melon crate we were able to make a big dog house for my dads great dane..there are alot of scrap plywood you can pick up around building sites..*be sure to ask* and roofing material as well that they re just going to dump.. now, if you have more money than time...id go with the one from one of the box stores... i just looked and there s all kinds you can get.. |

Nancy,
We had an igloo for our Springer. Although he never used it..... Actually, what happened with that igloo is kind of a sad story, but it made the dog next door, Dudley, a happy dog. The neighbors had just had their first baby and the dad claims he became allergic to him. SO, Walt made Dudley a little home in the garage of their home and used the igloo. He took care of Dudley until the day he had to be put down. Dudley was safe and warm in the igloo.......Walt also set up an electric heater near it too...because the poor dog was OUT even in the coldest days of winter.
