Default Self administer vaccines?

Does anyone do their own vaccination for 1st shots? What do you give and where do you get it? Love my vet, but I really could do that myself, I am trainied in lab animal surgery and giving a needle is easy.

We have a feed store in Oklahoma called Atwoods that you can purchase the 6-in-1 canine vaccines from. Cost is about $7 per shot I think. A lot of people that own farms and/or ranches do their own vaccinations on their dogs. I worked at Atwoods in highschool. Sold a lot of vaccines.

They used to also sell the rabies vacine and the check-out girl would give you tags for the number of vacines you bought and record the information in a log book for record keeping. They don't sale those anymore though.

If it's the same vacine - I don't see why you couldn't give it yourself, if you're trained. Only thing I see is you don't have any records. Here vacine records are a BIG thing - no record, either get it done again for the record or your dog can't go to the kennel - boarding facility, etc.

Might check out your local feed or small farm store. Look for a cooler or fridge, the vaccines are supposed to stay cold, I think.

We do, Todd. We get the vaccines, needles and supplies from online vet supply stores, Lambert, http://www.lambertvetsupply.com/index.php , Dr. Fosters and Smith, http://www.drsfostersmith.com/pet-meds/pr/c/9547 , etc. I order the brand that I like and I get the packages of 25 when I have a litter.
I keep Benedryl nearby in case of a reaction.
I stick the sticker label from the vaccine onto a paper with the puppy's identification and date of the vaccine, together with any notations of reactions or problems...and I give that to the new owners. I also tell them not to let their vet talk them into over vaccination because some vets ignore the "home administered" vaccines.
