Like the title says, I am making puppy food mush for the little ones first meal. They are lapping liquids well, so we are going to try mush (Hershey wants them weaned ASAP!). We weaned to raw last time and it was super easy to wean to ground raw. 1:1 raw to evapoated milk and mix with a spoon. This time we are going to kibble since last time zero families wanted raw and I had to transition them all to kibble anyway. I am using a Magic Bullet to grind kibble like coffee beans into powder to mix with evaporated milk to make a much meal. Wish us luck.

Oh the little ones loved it. I think they are hungry, Hershey is spending more time leaking her milk on the leather couch than feeding them. So I guess she is telling us to wean them. This morning their poo was not the yellow milk poo from nursing, but it was the brown dog food poo of an adult. Only here is the colour of poo so interesting.

hahaha, the color of poo...good name for a movie, eh?
And, now they get stinky! I am going to add Karbo powder to my pup's meals when I get them again...it keeps parasites away, is very healthy for them and makes their poops smell like chocolate! http://www.karbostore.com/canine.html |

Oh! Does that Karbo Essentials really work? We have a large litter, and I would love something that guards them a bit. Has this been proven to work, with no side affects?

I have not used Karbo Essentials with a female in heat and early pregnancy so I can't speak to that, I think we should contact the company and ask...the breeders on the several breeder forums that I read swear by it as a way to keep their litters healthy. Those who use it say that they NEVER get parasites! Good enough for me to try it.

Ok, question. When I was reading about this stuff I noticed it said improves daily gain, another site said something about it allowing food to be digested differently, that sort of thing. So my worry is this... well, 2 part in a way. Will the pups then grow at too fast a rate, causing difficulties down the road? And if we use food that is top of the line, and made for the health of the normal digestion of a puppy, then would this allow the body to digest too much of certain items? I know this may sound silly, but I come from the horse world were many a foal was ruined by too much of a good thing! Just wondering..... because if not, then I may try it!

Well, all I can say is that, as careful as I am and as much as I try to keep everything safe and germ free for the pups...they do get sick and if Karbo Powder can help prevent that by giving them a better chance to fight off disease...I am all for it.
Some very good and trusted breeders use this and they swear by it. I have put off buying it for a long time but every time I read about a breeder who believes it is a good thing, I have considered trying it...so, my next litter will be getting some. |

I will be watching you!!!
Since Tuesday's next litter will be coming about Feb/March, I guess that makes you the guinea pig.....why does every have to be so scarey anymore! I take it you will start using it when you start feeding pups, or are you goingto start with the moms? |
