I called the breeder, I got Benson from, to ask for copy's of the AKC papers from the parents. I offered to pay for the copy's, I told her he was a wonderful dog and I would like to get him CKC registered! I seen the AKC papers from the parents, when I got him. She told me she had to ask her vet, because she didn't want her registration numbers put on a MUTT! Now what in the heck does that mean? She must be out for the money only! And Please! don't say we told you so! I didn't know about breeders, except to check reg papers, and see parents! She did say she would no longer be breeding labradoodles, as she normally breeds labs, and her labs were on a rest between breeding! When I asked her why no labradoodes, she said she was gona try goldendoodles! Sorry! But I may become anti doodle soon! My Benson is very smart and very beautifull! He learned sit stay in one night! All in all I did get him cheap because he is black! I can only thank God that he is healthly, extreamly smart, and has an excellant tempermant! I guess what I am trying to say, is that I have learned so much from this forum, I feel realy stupid now!
Thanks for listening! Denise |

Hi Denise, I'm so glad you are one of the lucky one's and pray that your doodle doesn't have a genetic disorder down the road. It's nice to know that forums like this one are helping to educate people. On another forum a buyer wrote in to say that she had a puppy shipped to her that died of parvo in a matter of days, the breeder she bought from was selling his doodles for less than the normal Labradoodle price, this is usually an indicator that no testing is done on the parents. We are trying to get this breeder shut down, it has happened way too many times with this breeder and it is time he is shut down. Your breeder is definately not breeding for the love of the Labradoodle and will not be breeding for the love of the Goldendoodle. I hope he/she is stopped
Good luck with your doodle, they are special

Hi Denise,
I am sorry that you are finding the ugly side of this business on such a personal basis, but I am happy that you love your new puppy and recognize that he is a lovely dog...with or without papers. I think that a fear of wrath from the ACK and other "pure" breeders prompts people to strive for both...stay in good standing with the AKC and powers that be AND get the large fees that Labradoodles bring in. The problem with this attitude is that people like you will be abused by their greed. It makes me very angry. I own a gorgeous Poodle stud, from championship AKC lines, and I will never be able to register him through AKC because the breeders don't want to be associated with mixed breeding...so, the rules of the AKC are tossed out (and the AKC endorses this) by the breeders simply failing to register their litters or by filing falsified registration. When you contact the AKC, you get the response that there is nothing they can do. Since my Poodle is for breeding, I insisted on DNA matching because the pedigree that was given to me was false...and everyone knew it! When the DNA matching came back (poistively identifying the lineage) the AKC said that they could not do anything without the permission of the parent dog owners! Keep in mind that this was an AKC DNA matching! So, they know that they have intentionally false records on file but will not make a correction or even sanction the breeders...my opinion of registries like the AKC has, obviously, been colored by this. The funny side of this is that the only true purpose for getting AKC registration is to substantiate that your dog is from a defined and accepted pedigree! At least I now know, without a doubt, what line my Poodle is from and I can prove it with DNA. Still, you are not to blame...the problem is that breeders, trying to "cash in" on the demand for Doodles, will do anything to make/sell puppies and they will do it while the pup is young enough to be cute...they sell the pups early, they market in unsavory ways, they certainly don't offer responsible warranties and they don't back up the breeding program by testing the dogs and registering the litters. (And they will do anything to protect their reputations...shamful!) Now, in some states and in Canada...it is the LAW that ALL breeders selling puppies from advertised AKC or CKC stock, MUST register the litters...it is not optional. I suggest you find out what the laws of your area are and see if your breeder is in compliance. If not, you do have some options. Either way, don't be down on all doodles or all breeders...some of us are doing our very best to stop the actions of irresponsible breeders. Unfortunately, some of those breeders are protected by the all powerful AKC! |
