A good place to start if you like to read books are "Give your dog a bone" and "Grow your pups with bones" by Billinghurst. We feed raw and it is great! it is a bit of a game to find cheap sources of quality meat, you dont want to spend 5$/lb on you pup (unless you have lots of $$ to throw away) but once you find your sources, its easy. I also like to link to
http://www.rawfeddogs.net, and click on recipes to see how easy it is to feed raw. We feed a variety of meat sources, chicken, turkey, pork, beef, salmon, other fish, even moose. An adult dog eats about 2% of its weight per day in food. Each meal does not need to be balanced in size or composition but over a few days try to hit an average of 2%. We try to get about 10% organ meat, 10% steamed veggies, and the rest, 80% muscle meat and bone, with more meat than bone in this portion. There is more to it, and you see the ratio's a little different depending on who you follow, but the books are a good place to start your learning. Tell your friend good luck, and they can PM/email me if they have more specific question. I always like to help out doodle owners!
