Default Lost a Puppy tonite

one of rosies little girls, she was the smallest in my 5week old minature litter (will be less then 30lbs im guessing)
i went to town this am for about 4hrs, got back extremely lethargic , color bad, dehydrated, took to vet,
they did everything they could she was just to bad, im sick, this is what hypoglycemic does and how quickly they go down
just wormed last week, but had worms, i feel so bad,,im in tears, i guess i just cant leave ever again,,,
Im so tired i just cant see straight,,
I wonder if breeding these little ones are worth this heart ache,,

Oh, no...Nancy...I am sooooooo sorry...

Do NOT blame yourself...these things do happen and as heartbreaking as it is to bear, you did not cause this.

You can't stay home all the time with your dogs and puppies...I know that most breeders do, I rarely get a chance to leave and I know that you are the same...but when I can slip away, I will.

It hurts beyond description when we lose a pup that has been active and happy...I lost an 8 week old to toxic chicken tenders....that I HAD FED to her...so I do understand your pain and guilt...but all I can say is that we learn hard lessons in this business. You know that as well as anyone...and the fact that you feel this badly tells me that you are exactly the type of breeder we want in this business. If you didn't hurt, THEN I would wonder if you should give it up...

Mourn and grieve but don't give in to dispair...let the remaining pups surround you and I promise that you can't be sad for long...their antics, their sweetness, their love will help you to know why you MUST continue...

Your little one will join mine at the Rainbow Bridge...I hope that you find peace. You will be in my prayers.

Nancy, you HAVE to go sometimes...you can't stay with them 24/7...although I know that you must stay with them as much as I stay with mine...people think that Dave and I are nuts...they say, "they are just dogs...you can leave them in a kennel!" but we can't...we feel very responsible for them and for their happiness...it isn't that easy...yet, we all need some time away.
Don't beat yourself up.
My similar lesson was the time I lost a pup to early spay...8 weeks old, thought I was doing the right thing. I dropped them all off at the vet (5 girls) and the vet called later to say that one had a cardiac arrest! She said that she revived her but that the pup was having seizures. A very long and painful week later, I had to decide to put the little thing to sleep...she was not getting better and she was suffering so. I don't believe I have ever cried so much in my life as I did in that week.
She was at the emergency vet hospital...and whenever I'd see her it was horrible...but letting her go was the hardest thing I ever did.
If I would not have taken her in for the appointment, she would be alive.
I dropped off 5 happy, sweet, full of life puppies...and one of them ... well, I don't think I will ever get over the loss. Ever.
Still, this is when I learned that the rest of the lively, loving, playful pups can heal your heart. So, let them work their magic on you.

Nancy - so very sorry to hear about your puppy, I know how much you love them. Don't blame yourself...you can't be with them 24/7. Those puppies need a strong, alert, balanced mum to make sure as many as possible survive to go to their families...and you wouldn't fit that description if you never left their side. You are the best you can be, and that's all you can ask of yourself. I know that doesn't stop the hurting when things go wrong, but neither does blaming yourself...you are there for your other babies now, and you owe it to them to be kind to yourself. Take care and cuddle those puppies

nancy............so sorry to hear about losing that little puppy
and no matter what we say you will still feel grief and more but this does happen when we least expect it
though it doesn't make it any easier.

you cannot be there 24/7 though you try hard just like Jac but possibly as time goes on you will NOT blame yourself
and see that comes with the job of breeding no matter how much we dont' want to admit it.

i too remember my breeder being in NC with a dying family member......her hubby calls me early sat morning
(he stayed home) and when i arrive to their house I kept trying to revive a puppy till finally i had to give up.
the following day i came down horribly sick and was trying to tell a 9yr old how to rotate the rest of the puppies etc a
nd we lost 2 more while i am on the phone.I was so sick and sad and i couldn't say a thing to my breeder till she got home
as her own father died.

Nancy why some puppies just don't make it we will never know but we have to move on for the ones that do.
it hurts, it's sad, we feel responsible BUT in reality sometimes no matter what we do this is where the saying:
survival of the fittest" hits us square in the face and we have to remember to keep trying regardless and stop blaming
ourselves for something that is beyond our control especially when you know you try your best at every possible moment.

Nancy those puppies alive need your help now and so does the mom. hang in there honey as there are better days ahead

(((((((((((((((((((((Nancy))))))))))))))))))) and prayers for you coming your way....I'm so very sorry that this has happened...but you can't beat yourself up over it, because even if you were there, it would have happened anyway..I know that's not much consolation, but I believe everything happens for a reason, and someday you'll know what that reason is...in the meantime, gather up all of your other pups and let them shower you with their sweet kisses...this action in itself will help to heal your grieving heart....

Nancy,
I am very sorry for your loss. Its a teriible pain to lose something so innocent. You can't be a prisoner to you dogs, you have to have a life too. It wasnt that you left that made the puppy pass, even if you were there you may not have seen anything until it was too late. We left routinely for 3-4 hours for our volunteering activities and the pups were fine. Its a sad thing but not your fault. Just give the extra love to the rest of the little ones.

I'm getting here too late to offer my condolences at the most critical time. I am so sorry, Nancy!
How very sad that is!
As others have said, you have to leave some time! I know it's hard to accept that everything happens for a reason, right now. My question I know would be, what possible reason could there have been for this? Nothing is comforting right now.
Hang in there and I wish I had been here sooner when you first posted this...........I feel so bad for you.

Worms!!! but i wormed last week,, which now has me thinking!! with all the stuff going on in this country , selling us stuff that is worthless and/or will kill us or our dogs, this is BS!!! ok now im ranting,
the lack of care of these manufacturers resulted in A Dead PUPPY!!!
ok changing my tactics, they got wormed again late last nite, i monitored all nite, seem fine today,,i worming 2nd day tonite

When the toys/minis have one little thing wrong, they can get hypoglycemic quick, this all happened within a 4hr period!!!
I may be keeping these littlier ones a tad bit later ,,

There you go...now you are learning from the experience! A sad lesson, to be sure, but you are moving forward and some good will come of it.

I don't know that I would blame the worms on the dog food, although it is tempting, but it is certainly possible that the worms are around your new home and yard...there have likely been MANY animals walking through your property and it is not impossible that one of your adult dogs, or even humans, have tracked eggs in...and, Lord knows, puppies chew on shoelaces and such...and they lick floors and put everything into their mouths...so, I would not try to fix blame...just learn, adjust and move on.

When you try to find someone to blame you keep those hurt feelings boiling inside of you and then it consumes you...so let it go, for your own sake.
