Hey Martha and Tom - just had a quick read of some of that link, and it certainly seems to be a case of "throwing the baby out with the bathwater"! I can't do much from NZ but I really wish you guys lots of luck in 'softening' this sort of legislation. Sure, they need toget to grips with the puppy farms etc, but not to the detriment of all you ethical breeders. Hope you get a good response and can reverse some of that before it is too late. Please keep us posted on how it goes

Hi Martha,
In California we seem to battle these things almost every month! We had the very scary AB 1634 that requried ALL dogs to be spayed/neutered UNLESS they were in shows (AKC) or being trained as police dogs. You can't imagine how many dogs that affected. It was a horrible bill and we fought it for almost a year, then the person who proposed the bill removed it and REFILED it during the holidays in an effort to slip it past while everyone was too busy with other things. We killed that bill. Then they tried again, revamping the bill...it failed. Last month we fought a bill to charge sales tax on veterinary care...which would have severely increased the cost of medical treatment for our pets. PetPack has been crucial in helping to fight this and I think that they are fighiting pet laws nation-wide. http://www.petpac.net/ Good luck! |
