Not a really interesting story, standard 1st shots, microchipping, de-worming. We were 10/10 in desended testicles! "Nice balls". And no hernia's! He must have said "perfect" dozens of times. We have one mild heart murmer, a 1 out of a 6 point scale, but he said it wont be a problem, he will out grow it, and if not it is so minor it wont cause a problem (I notified the familily of the puppy immediately). In the midst of constantly having to defend doodles to CKC/AKC types I have to say I love my vet and his employees. They were all thrilled at my puppies, commented on how great their coats were and how well adjusted and calm they were. They spend the entire hour appointment gushing over the puppies. Nice. They even said they get a few doodle breders through and they really think we are on to something great since they are always such wonderfull puppies. Thank you Mr. Vet (not his real name).
And then in the parking lot we meet Ms. regestered lab breeder (dont know her real name). 1st question "what are those". They are labradodles. 2nd question "how much did you sell them for"......she doesnt want to buy one, she just want to judge me for my price. Well, I first told her about the DNA testing, hips/elbows, importance of temperment, etc...and that I was long ago sold out and they all have great homes. "Are your labs tested?". She quicky left. hum? |

lol you could have ruined Ms. Registered Lab Breeders day with the advice I got from my neighbor who is a vet. She is actually the one who turned me on to labradoodles. She is an advocate of careful hybrid breeding and DNA testing, she thinks the lab/poodle or golden/poodle hybrids usually result in a healthy dog with an excellent temperament. She said the desire of AKC breeders to breed to the show ring standard has produced so many dogs with crippling genetic disorders that she rarely suggests a particular 'breed' to her clients looking for a puppy, but instead discusses how to go about finding a healthy, well balanced dog.

Todd, Great answer.... I'm chuckling. I've also decided that when I get my next doodle, you're going to be the breeder, tell me, how would you think about having a guardian family in Connecticut!!! :P :P

Our vet used to breed poodles. He LOVES the Labradoodles and thinks the hybrid vigor is a wonderful thing. So glad your pups are healthy....but some pictures would have been GOOD!!

Well done Todd! I'm with you... unless others are testing and going to the lengths that we are to make healthy well balanced puppies, they are in no position to criticize.

OMG Hazel looks the image of Charlie when I first got him, especially in the second photo. I'd forgotten how cute he was
