I am in love with white and brown parti doodles. The are some for sale here and I wish we could buy one, but alas, it will have to wait a year or so. But, what does a parti carrier look like, can you tell? We just heard from the breeder that owns the stud we use, and he threw some parti puppies in a std poodle breeding. Low and behold he carrries parti, so 1/2 my pupples should be parti factored. 1/2 of my pupples have white on their chest (see avatar), are they the parti carriers? I spent so much time and brain power on b's and e's and D's and agouti I havent read much about parti yet. HELP!

No help here but I too, love the parti colors. I know that in the Poodle world, parti coloring is a major fault and a disqualification from the AKC show ring (stupid rule if you ask me!). Do you think that because of this, the parti genes are pretty rare and hard to find in potential breeding stock? Just curious because, as I said, I love the parti's but you don't see too many of them. And since you like the parti's, you're lucky that the stud you use carries the parti gene. Would both parents need to carry the parti gene in order to have puppies with tons of white (or *major* parti coloring) in their coats? Or is it just *the luck of the draw*, so to speak?
Anyway, your puppies are gorgeous and I love the white on their chests. I especially love their rich color, it's just beautiful! |

Hi Todd - If your stud has thrown partis in the past, then your pups with the white mismarks are most likely parti-factored. Look for striations of color on the roof of the mouth, or 2 colors on the paw pads, or 2 colors on the belly. Now, that being said...some parti carriers don't have any of that (even the white mismarks). And, sometimes the white mismarks are just mismarks. But, given that your stud produced full parti pups in the past, he is most definitely factored and those pups with the white mismarks should be also. I'm sure some other more experienced breeders will have something to add, but that's it in a nutshell. Good luck!

I love parti-colored labradoodles as well. According to long time breeders I know, both the sire and the dam must be parti or parti factored to produce parti puppies. Blossom, our sable standard poodle is parti factored. Her dad is parti and her mom is black who is parti factored. In the litter half were parti colored puppies. I am attaching Blossom's photo

Aw, what a cutie pie in your avatar! Gosh, how they grow!
It is my understanding that if your sire is parti factored, half of the litter will carry...but the only way to know for certain is to wait and breed them to a parti factored mate. There is no test for parti genes...that I know of. Maureen is the best one to answer this as she is an expert in color genetics and has helped me a lot...and I believe that she has said that you won't know until you do a test litter. Now, if both parents are parti factored, then the entire litter would be. I do believe (and this is just my opinion...nothing at all to base it on) that if the dog has some mismarking, that could mean parti...but I don't think it always does. I think. |

Both Parents must carry the parti gene
do research on your Labradoodle lines to see if you labradoodle even carries the part gene, it wont show in first cross.. so you breed a lab and a parti or parti factor poodle, then raise a pup, then breed that pup to a parti or parti factored poodle (i have found that poodles with any white carries the parti gene (well thus far anyway) take it from me, trying to breed specifically for parti colors especially brown and white is hard and you end up with alot of blacks, even breeding for chocolate and white, i know how you feel i love them too,, |

I know that both partents must have parti for full out parti colouring. I know the dad is a carrier, so I was just wondering how to tell wich half of my puppies are parti carriers from dads gene. My labradoodle does not come from parti poodle line so the puppies will at best be carriers. Too bad there isnt a test for it. They know which gene is responsible for parti, MITF, so a test for it is the next logical step.

I wonder (in fact i think that maybe ) DNA would give you color genes
others would know better then i on that,, I go by studying pedigrees I have kept pups from parti factored litters and they have all,(course one parent was a Parti Poodle), when bred produced parti pups in every litter, so i would say any pups in the litter will be a carrier, but dont hold me on that , that has just been my experience thus far |

hi, I have 2 dogs that BOTH have the parti gene and this is for sure, YET we got 9 puppies a week ago, and ALL are solid color!
This is our girl Cookie, who is from Keenan, the same sire we used, and a pretty poodle like Maila's Blossom: ![]() ![]() So, in my experience going for it is certainly an option, but NOT necessarily a sure thing! |
