Default Why I Love my Doodle...

First, an apology...to anyone who was hurt by the angry debate that started yesterday; for my role in it, I am deeply sorry. On my initative, I have deleted the post.

I have been in personal contact with the poster and I believe that we share a common love of dogs and that there is a sincere desire for her to understand why we believe that Doodles should be bred.

Let's take this opportunity to focus on all of the wonderful things that our Doodles have brought to our lives.

This is a post asking you to tell us why you are glad that your Doodle was born.

I will start by saying that since I am a breeder, I have too many Doodles and can't focus on one in particular.

I will say that not only have I found loving, goofy, tender companions in my Doodles, I have discovered that they are more. They think. They reason. They are highly intelligent and extremely social creatures.

These dogs seem to live to please, to love and to comfort their owners.

On the downside, they have puppy antics that are regrettable...they like to chew, dig, eat socks/couches/poisonous toads...

No other dog in the world can compete in the Doodle 500!

I have never before been with a dog who has the expressive face, the inate intelligence and the athletic abilities of a Doodle...somehow, combining Labs and Poodles have taken the very best of both dogs and wrapped it up into one very surprising, happy, adorable dog.

And, even though science says that there are no hypo-allergenic dogs, my experience says that there are. My husband is severely allergic to dogs and cats, but he is not allergic to our Doodles. Whatever people say or argue about concerning hypo-allergenic dogs matters not to me...what matters to me is watching my husband, sitting on the floor, surrounded by adult Doodles and their puppies...hearing his laughter and watching his joy...I can't describe what this means to me. Every person should be allowed to experience this. This is all we are asking...we don't want to convert those who don't want to be converted...but to the thousands of people in the world who WANT a Doodle...how can anyone deny this joy?

Finally, I breed Doodles because I love them...with all of my heart and soul, I love them. They are great dogs, with temperaments that make them one of the best family companions ever. Someday, I hope that people understand. We just want to enjoy our dogs, improve the breed, be happy families and share our love with the dog that makes our lives complete.

A very gracious post Jac...that's why we all love you!!

Let me start out by saying that I love my Doodle because:
Of all the laughter he brings to me...

The endearing look with the white of his eyes showing when he looks up at me after he's done something naughty ..

The way he has to smell, and inspect a piece of food, and ever so slowly open his mouth to have a taste, and if
he approves, will chew it ever so slowly, savoring every bite like a true connoseiur (sp?) Oh..and he also brings the morsel up on the couch to enjoy...Unlike Molly our lab who inhales everything..

The way he watches TV, and critisizes every commercial...which now btw he seems to be watching thru the mirror on the back wall of our bedroom..he can see the tv on the opposite wall..so while I'm in the bathroom, he's standing in the hall with one eye on the tv and one on me!!

The way he follows me no matter where I go..he's never underfoot, but just wants to be by my side...

The way he's so very excited to see his Daddy when he comes home...like he hadn't seen him in years, and it's only been 8 hrs. or so...

The way he snuggles in bed at night, AFTER I've pushed him over so I can get in...

There are many more reasons why I love my Doodle and I could go on and on, but it's his joy of life that he has as he greets every morning, which brings a smile to my face and warms my heart, and his big sigh of contentment as he drifts off to sleep at night that makes me so very thankful we that have him!

I am like all of you. I would be lost with out my doodles. I mean what is a day with out a doodle 500. My doodles know when i have a bad day they seem to stay with you thru anything. And the fact that they love you no matter how bad you look in the morning. Totally a plus. My doodles aren't just dogs they are our babies, members of our family our DOODLES!!!

And how could you not love these faces:

I can't say no to those faces. 2 CUTE. I love those 2.

My wife says the same thing. She gets emotional when I wrestle on the floor or cuddle with Marley. I too have severe allergies, and rarely last much longer than a couple of hours when at someone's home with shedding, dandered up dogs. Our discovery of Labradoodles has greatly enhanced our lives and we are so happy that somebody, somewhere along the line came up with this animal. She ached for a dog for years, and we both knew it might never happen. But we finally took the risk to get one nad it has paid off big time!!

Smell?? Inspect?? Savors?? Slowly?? these words are foreign to me. Not a Maley trait. He has never savored anything. I can't say inhale, its faster. More like Enter..swallow!! Gone. Most of the time it is just swallowed with little if any chewing.

Default Re: Why I Love my Doodle...

Why do I LOVE my doodles and all doodles?

For every reason already stated
and for the fact that they are the best dogs
we have ever had.....
[Have had in the past a German Shepherd,
Border Collie, Mini Schnauzer, Cocker Spaniel,
Afghan, Irish Setters, Standard Schnauzer
Sheltie and now two Labradoodles!
We loved them all...each had a story.

My Irish Setter lived 17 years and was such a love...but, you know,
( and I feel like I am betraying her whom I loved so very much, but ....)
I truly think this combination of Lab and Poodle is amazing!!!
The personality of these doodles far surpasses all the others I have had...

These really do think, plot and plan on a high level!!
This was true of my setter, Aleyma, too.
I just knew she understood complicated sentences
and I still believe it,
because so does Coco!!

Abby is slower to grasp things, but once she gets it, she's got it!
She is so eager to please and do well!
She truly does want you to be happy with her and she is loyal and obedient
....not stubborn at all like Coco is.
Abby is known to grab a quick look back at mom to be sure
she is watching when she does her next really cool,
hop-skip and a twisted-jump-thing!
(Just like a child will do....”Watch this, MOM!!”)

As a puppy just weeks old~ until she was nearly a year old......
Coco could really be considered a criminal, a manipulator, a con.....
a thief.....and a loveable clown all at once!!
Her early days were sometimes rough on me...
She was always challenging my authority, nipping and counter surfing
when tall enough. She would stand and think about obeying
for a long time before decided she might as well comply!!

{Annmarie, Vanessa, Jacque, Nancy, Mary,
Maureen, Gene, Leslie, Kim, Kathie, Sue, Todd,
and I could go on and on naming that gang of Hooligans whose input of
information, advice and good humor always made me laugh
while getting me through the puppy stages that Coco so stubbornly held tightly to!!
[she was frustrating at times, But Those Eyes....and that once in awhile "Annabelle Look"
or “Miko Look” that she tries...still melts my heart!!]

Now, at 2 years -2 months old Coco has matured greatly!
....Now she is a cop!!
A tattle tail and a bossy big sister to her
Abby (and to Lila, when she is here...my son's dog...)
It is funny to watch her be all that and then drop
the role with them and mind me.....
(WOW! That's something I wasn't sure ever was going to happen!
But it did and I am sneaking in right here
a big Thank Youto EVERYONE for all your help!)

Abby is a feisty little sweetie, who is my shadow! Much easier to train...
She is an instigator in play groups, the challenger and she is always
the only one rolling around on the ground....
even when she doesn't have any apparent reason to....

Her coat is the non-shedding, silky fleece and lately has some of that
downy fluff that so easily matts!!! Why is she the one who insists upon rolling like
she is a lint brush picking up tons of mulch and dead grass in her coat???
Coco is so easy to brush out and get all the debris off her but,....Abby is high maintenance!!
That is a chore, but she is soooo good while I sit with her on
the floor and work on her coat. OMGoodness !
I cannot believe how still and cooperative she is!
It is sort of a relaxing therapy time for both of us!

You must understand that I love animals and dogs in particular!
....so I love to hear all the stories about people and their pets...
(must be partly why I was drawn to the forum, that...and the fact that
it was a Labradoodle Forum!!!)
BUT
Doodles just thrill my heart!
There is something uniquely "different!" about doodles.
I am so very grateful that there are breeders with high standards out there
working hard to produce healthy wonderful Labradoodles.
Since all the different venues now are making the Labradoodle breed well known....
I have begun to pray that folks who operate those puppy mills and the "bybreeders"
don't decide to get started breeding labradoodles, or goldendoodles,
or any oodle for that matter....I know they already have....but I am praying that it stop.

Through this forum and breeder’s websites, etc. so much information is available
to educate folks who are thinking about purchasing a dog and/or considering a doodle....
That with only a little research people have the opportunity to read about the ownership of
and breeding practices of so many, many people ~ great people who describe their practices
and breeding philosophies and who have references to prove they are very responsible
and reputable breeders!
All that to say, more and more people are finding out about pet stores,
puppy mills, and back yard breeders
and are choosing to give their business to breeders
who test their breeding stock and provide much more love,
training and socialization ALONG WITH A HEALTHY ENVIRONMENT FOR
their puppies before they can be placed in forever homes.

I have received the BEST,BEST, BEST
help and mentoring from the breeders on this forum.
A special Thank you to Jac, who has given me so much advice and guidance
to utilize when I finally begin breeding. She is terrific!!
For as long as she has served us she has always been a great moderator for the forum
and is a very knowledgeable breeder, willing to help at the drop of a hat !! Thank you, again!
Annmarie, you are a sort of the glue, dear, for this whole thing!!
I truly appreciate your humor and how you seem to be able to turn
any bad situation into a good one!!
( and that is across the board....with your own life,
with forum issues and with doodle issues !)
Your faith and perseverance and your laughter
encourage many!
Thank you, too!!

If you are still reading all my rambling....God Bless You, get up and stretch!!
This was way, way too long!!!!
Seems if I try to shorten my thoughts and words, they only get longer.....
SORRY!!!

I love Maya for her goofy antics. The way she pouts when she doesn't get her cuddles (or enough cuddles). They way she is a great comfort when I am upset. I smile everytime I come downstairs from my office and she is waiting by the steps with a toy in her mouth (my present she gives me). She does this even if I have only been gone for 5 min.

I love my foster doodles because of the way the look to me for help and comfort while they become the best dog that they can be. (Sorry this stems from yesterday...Mandi went to the vet straight from the shelter. We had an hour ride together and I was driving so we didn't have time to "bond". Everythime the vet did something "bad" to her she would come over to me and get pets and love and then be ready to go on again. It's like she knew I was there to help her and that I saved her!)

Charlie is my loyal and loving doodle....he loves the rest of the family too, especially when they play with him, but he is definitely my velcro dog. I love the way he pads upstairs...it always makes me laugh the way he manages all4 paws at once! I love the way he gets up to follow me to the next room, then he flops down with a sigh of relief only to have to get straight up again cos I'd only gone to fetch something and now we're heading back to the same room. He's a very kind puppy...despite the cavs giving him a hard time (puppies should be seen, not heard and certainly shouldn't ask them to play!) and showing him who's boss occasionally by pinning him to the floor (which looks really funny cos he's twice their size and could easily hold his own if he wanted to!) if he thinks one of them is in trouble or ill he rushes over and sits close to them and pats them gently on the head with his big puppy paw.

I think Charlie's most endearing traits are his sense of humour and his funny antics (the 'spring lamb hop' straight up in the air is particularly funny when he does it when he's jumping over my husband or sons on the floor...he comes down pretty hard and makes me and my daughters laugh ) also his sheer enjoyment of everything.."shall we go for a walk, mum? yippee! You want to go on the computer instead? Great, I'll just come and lie on your feet" And I love waking up in the morning and knowing he's a few feet away in his crate, just waiting patiently for me...not having even asked to get up when Steve's gone to work.

I would like to get another puppy maybe in a year or so (they are rather addictive) and thought that rather than just going for another doodle I ought to at least consider other breeds....I went thro a long list of those I have had in the past and those that I have considered in the past....but I just kept coming back to doodles!! So I'm afraid Charlie has spoiled me for anything else, bless his little cotton socks!!

Boy Jac....talk about a difficult post! Where to begin.....

I love Jonah for his gentle strength. He has been there through good times and bad. Eaten sofa's, books, you name it. He is always happy to see me...NEVER lets me go to the bathroom by myself. He is always there to let me know when the mailman comes. and he likes a good slow dance!

Miko....my little velcro princess....squirrel hunter extraordinaire....the most soulful eyes I ever seen on a dog. My bipolar pup, a outgoing wrestling crazy doodle 500 runner here at home and the meek , shy, awkward, unsure velcro puppy on the outside who loves to make me out to be a liar.

Rumor.....my little lover. My jumper, my prancer, my little sad sack. He climbs half in my lap (like now) making it almost impossible to type. Then he leans back his head for that kiss on the nose that he knows he'll get. The boy who at night will lay that Cheeto smelling paw on me as if to say thanks for saving me.

My favorite moment of the day with them is just before bed. We have a routine where they all get in their "special" places in bed and they get a super treat (salmon jerky....stinks to high heaven). They are so excited about this special treat that they're all drooling. It's yucky, but oh so sweet!

I love my fosters because they make me feel good about myself. Their pure joy and happiness shows. They know that they are on the road to happiness and are (mostly) so eager to please. It's very hard giving up pieces of my heart each time they leave. But knowing they are going to a better place with a loving family makes it worth the pain!

And most of all, i love my doods for their patience with all the revolving door fosters I've had in the last few months. I don't think I could be as patient!

Ever part with one of my kids?? NEVER!!

Ahhhhhhhhh Gene, you make me cry, with all the love you have and get from your gang..........
I agree as to where to begin to explain the love I have for these babies of mine.........

Denver is the most gentle sensitive dog, he is so kind and loving and truly is Mr. Perfect, in return he asks for the chance
to play ball whenever and however long you can give to him............He is the watcher of all animals in my house and alerts me to
anyone who is in trouble, sick or needs a time out. He loves to give kisses and to sit in my lap, which at his size is difficult but oh so rewarding to
be loved back so much, by such an amazing animal.
He is my boy and always will be and I just love him to pieces..........

Ryder is not yet 6 months old and although I keep referring to him as "he ain't no Denver" we love him to death because of his differences...........
He is our chewer and destroyer of all things, and truly a cheeky monkey, if any of you have seen "Marley & Me" well that is our Ryder.........
However he is the sweetest dog and loves hugs and kisses and when he sits in your lap he does a flying leap to get there , and looks in your eyes
like it is the first time he has ever seen you and then he cuddles up as close as he can.................and this is why we forget all about the toilet
paper that is strewn around the house or the destuffing of every toy that Denver has ever owned............
He is my boy and always will be and I just love him to pieces............

I can see that all too clearly. When I ask him to come or sit there are times where he is just looking at me and thinking, " Do I really want to?"

I only had one other dog as a puppy a long time ago. He was a half husky/shepard mix. Even with all the time I spent with him, I never reached the level of connection that I have with Remy. There is something special about the Labradoodles. They give things much more thought than any of my other dogs.

Why I love my Doodle.... He is always there for me. Nothing can lighten my day than to come home and have my little guy waiting for me in the window. He loves to cuddle and play. He follows me around and looks for ways to interact, always saying, "whatcha up to mom?"

There is no doubt that the Labradoodle is the dog for me.

I also want to thank my breeder, Angelica Downs for being all that I would want a breeder to be. When you see all that she does, with the 2 females she has to breed and how she does it out of her own house, she does all the health testing and researches all of the parentage of the dads, births them right in her bedroom. She has done everything perfect. And that is what breeding is all about. Providing healthy, well raised puppies for families to enjoy, much like the breeders on this forum.

My doodles are more then dogs to me. They are a member of our family. Doodles are the best breed for me. They are goofy, smart, lovable, and a bit mischievous. But no madder what we love them the same. The goofy antics do help from time to time. Sometimes you feel like you live in a circus. With a Big furry clown that from one minute to another can go from doing doodle500's to on the floor fast asleep in seconds. But it isn't the playful nature that keeps me coming back. It is what is under all that goofy doodle. They are a sweet and loving dog. You can see it in their eyes. They seem to be a very wise beyond their years. They are always by your side kind of like Velcroed to you. They follow you everywhere you go, to the end of the Earth and back. They never play favorites they love you all the same.

Those are just some of the reasons i love my doodles.

Ditto, Ditto, Ditto.. for all the reasons already stated.

Sadie is so different from any other dog I've had. Maybe it's that I'm able to spend more time with her than I was with the others but I don't think so. She is the most comical dog I know, I just smile when I look at her.

The way she pokes me in the back of the legs or butt with her nose if we are playing and I start to walk away with the toy, she follows and nose butts me, which just makes me laugh.

The way she looks when I talk to her as though she understands every word I say. Like at 12 weeks old I told her to wait as I went out to get the paper and mail in and she did!! And to wait to get in and out of the car. I just said wait and she did, like she knew what the word meant.

The way she has me trained

The way she comes looking to find me if she's not sure where I went.

The way she comes to look in the kitchen window when she is out in the yard, just to see what I'm doing and to make sure I'm still there.

Because she is who she is, my silly, lovable, little clown, who loves me as much as I love her.
