Default A "Chip" off the old block

This is Chip, my stud dog... He was a deep rich chocolate color as a pup and has lightened with age to become cafe au lait.

This is Leo, his 3 month old ds...

It seems Chip's passed on his looks quite nicely.

Was he the lighter or darker of the two chocolate pups?

they're both so cute. Chip is an adorable poodle. I love his haircut. I much prefer the look of poodles when they have a more "doodle-ish" cut

those are 2 handsome devils!!! - I too love Chip's cut - I copied it to take to the groomers if Hamish ends up curlier than expected - I'm wondering if Hamish will lighten up that much - His Mom an F1 is still pretty chocolate - his dad is similar in color to Chip (but without the cool haircut) - how old was Chip when he started to lighten up??? Leo is similar in color to Hamish - who will be 7 months old next week

Dustt, we hadn't any clue until he was about 8 or 9 months old that Chip had ANY silver on him. I got him groomed nice and short and suddenly he was a totally different looking pup!
His sire was apricot, and his dam chocolate, so I truly didn't expect him to turn cafe au lait. I really wasn't too happy about it at first, as I LOVED his deep chocolate; yet over time it's grown on me and I like how his feet and head are darker... although they can still lighten too yet. This is Chip at about 4- 5 months of age... so it was a major change.

We did however see silver between the toes on his son Leo at less than 2 weeks of age, so suspect he will eventually look much like his dad does.

Tink, he is a cutie pie! Good job!!

I was reading, just yesterday, from a Poodle site, that chocolate almost always lightens. I was sort of glad to read that, because I was disappointed at Chase's colors turning too...but, like you, I have learned to love the color! It is so much prettier in person too.

I leave Chase's coat longer too...I clip it short for summer or if it gets too long, but I love the longer look...sometimes I can't resist...I put a pom-pom on Chase's tail...it is so cute when he "helicopters" his tail around with a pom-pom! hahahaha

Thanks so much for Chip's "before" photo - that is about as close as I've ever seen to Hamish's Dark Chocolate color - I am expecting him to lighten - I just wasn't sure when it would start - my husband keeps thinking that he'll stay dark - I keep reminding him that it's very unlikely!!! - here's a shot of Hamish's Mom - she has remained Chocolate with "highlights"!![attachment=0:lvzb8nga]Esse_1.JPG[/attachment:lvzb8nga] - I was hoping he'd end up with Color similar to his momma!!! - but after seeing how cool Chip looked with his Ombre cafe look - I'm excited for that possibility too!!!
