I have a raw question. We have fed it to our to doods since we got them. Hershey is now nursing puppies and I am worried about her brininging E coli from her food on her beard or in her mouth back to the puppies. The puppies dont have the immune system to fight E coli and it is a major killer of puppies. The "in nature" argument for raw food, she would have time between eating and returning to the den to clense her mouth, but not at home. the kitchen and the den are only a few feet away. Do any of you have thoughts on this concern? So far she is getting boiled chicken and cooked ground beef, smoked ham until I figure this out. lucky dog.

Hi Todd...obviously I have not been feeding raw yet, but I have been reading about it in the breeder's forums and when I did, the breeders rave about how healthy the pups are with raw food.
I just tried to find links for you but couldn't. I understand your concern. We work so hard to keep the environment sanitary... I don't have any answers, but I do recall seeing that breeders are swearing by the great health of their puppies. One of those breeders is well known and respected and never has problems with parasites or any serious illness that I am aware of...I am going to PM her web page to you and I am certain that she will respond if you write to her and explain. |

Hershey has made the decision for us. She wont eat raw right now. Maybe she know shomething we dont. I am still trying to decide if we will wean to raw or kibble. She Flat our refuses raw even with Gus hovering. She does like some of the home cooked recipies I am making her.
