OK....meet Sera.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We got her all safe and sound....smelly and matted (severely). First thing she did was thump her tail when the rescue helper opened the back of her van. When I got her out, she jumped up and kissed me. She is the SWEETEST dog I've ever met. Instant love. Road great in the car on the way home. Just wanted love and petting. Once getting her home......oh boy.....not a pretty sight! They were right at the shelter. There's quite a bit of aggression towards other dogs....especially Jonah! She was amazing with the clippers. Did have to restrain her at first, but soothing talk and petting put her in a calm state of mind. She was (still is, not done yet) so badly matted that part of her fur was like shaving a Rastafarian sheep. It came off in sheets. And the smell.......YIKES!! She's peed, she's pooed....and right now they are all sleeping. I hope things get better. Right now she's going to be spending a lot of time in the crate, which is good since she was just spayed tuesday. Say your prayers for us!! PS: will post a after shave picture tomorrow. She looks like Denver's baby sister with her hair short....

ohhh Gene, those soulful eyes.. she looks like Jonah's soulmate in that first picture, but after reading your post they may have different ideas lol. Well I hope they all settle down and become friends.
She sure is a beauty, anxious to see her after your trim. Congrats on taking this on.

Here's the vague report I got......"older than one, younger than two". Her weight at the vet was @ 45#.....she's a happy wiggler! I think after the hair cut.......around 40#

She is gorgeous, even with that matted coat. I too think she has Jonah's soulful eyes. I hope she and Jonah settle okay. You are awesome for saving Sera.

Hey....so far so good Gene! I'll bet she feels like a million bucks!!! Funny how every time you said the word 'bone', her tail wagged, so she must have had one in her past....kinda makes you wonder what happens or happened that she had to be put in the shelter....poor baby, but at least she has you and the kids now, which is a wonderful gift to her

Gene, what a beautiful girl! She is so lucky to have you.
Let me reassure you that she will do fine with Jonah. I always thought that nice dogs got along...not so! When my rehome girl came here, she wanted to play with Bayley (her auntie) and Bay would have none of it! Allie would go to Bayley and Bay would snap and growl and run away. Then Allie would bark at her and run after her and Bay would growl the entire time. After about a week and a half of this, one day I looked outside and there they were...Allie and Bayley...playing and chasing and having a great time! Sera will need to learn how far she can go with Jonah and visa versa...I read that we, as pack leaders, have to respect the alpha dog and that sometimes we define who that is by who has been in the home the longest. We let that dog eat first and go out the door first and if there is ever a fight...take the side of the alpha dog and ignore the other. It is just the opposite of what i would have thought...but I tried this with Chase (who was being pushed around by younger dogs...Chase is such a sweetheart) and soon his confidence grew and the trouble stopped. Anyway, Jonah will teach Sera what she needs to know in order to fit in...don't worry. |
