This is from the next town up the road from me, about 25 minutes away. 221 poodles and poodle mixes rescued from a 'breeder'. She was selling them in classifieds and over the internet. The story talks about some dogs being 'boutique' breeds and worth up to $2000. The video of them opening up door after door and finding room after room of dogs is heartbreaking.
And rage inducing. http://www.wkrn.com/global/story.asp?s=12367540

Someone else suggested on the blog portion of this horrible story that maybe they didn't press charges because they would need to keep the dogs as evidence until the trial was over. This is a legitimate reason...as much as I hate to see her not being charged...likely they told her that they would offer a diversion agreement, of sorts, where if she complies with certain terms and conditions, including signing over her right to the dogs (so they can be placed immediately) then they would not prosecute. This would also likely include a provision not to have any more pets.
Still...it makes me furious...and I hope that they sue her in civil court (they can do that) for care, upkeep and placement of the dogs. |
