Default Wanna hear a GOOD rescue story??????

Some of you might remember when I found Clyde, a big gangly black F1 LD who had spent over 6 months of his short 12 month life in a dog shelter in Iowa. We arranged for pilotsNpaws to fly a 3 leg flight for Clyde from Iowa to Hartford, CT where I met the plane and gave Clyde the first taste of family life, as his foster home. Clyde was the victim of "big black dog syndrome", a wonderful personality but his color and size had deterred many potential adopters.
DRC found a wonderful home for him, a newly divorced man who'd yearned for a canine companion. His daughters were in college, and he and Clyde were now the "men of the house".... I got a call from the new owner about 3 weeks ago, his health had declined and he was giving himself IV antibiotics at home to try to keep his foot, however he faced possible amputation and rehabilitation. He refused to return to the hospital until he could arrange for Clyde's care. He didn't want to give up Clyde, who he sees as his family, but if it was necessary for Clyde's benefit he would, he told me through tears.

After Clyde's long life in the animal shelter we thought it wouldn't be good for Clyde to go into a boarding kennel. The owner and I strategized, I made some calls to other DRC members. The next day Clyde went into a DRC foster home within 40 miles of the owner's home for "respite". The new owner could now concentrate on healing his body while knowing his soulmate is safe and awaiting his master's recovery. The owner has been in contact with the foster home via phone, his leg was amputated and he now is rehabilitating in a nursing home and awaiting a new artificial leg. He plans to take a visit to CT next week to visit his buddy Clyde, and soon will be able to welcome him back to their home. I'm sure Clyde's presence and love will help his human heal his own body and spirit. Meanwhile, DRC is helping the family cope with this tragedy.
Now THAT'S a rescue story to repeat!!!

Wow, what a stroy. Thanks for sharing. I know if I ever had to go through something so tragic I would want my doodles taken care of until I could be back home to be with them. It is amazing how quickly a dog can make you fall in love with them and how much joy just their presence can give you. Time to go home and kiss the doods.
