Default Philly doodle pup needs leg saved!!!!!

Doodle Rescue Collective (DRC) was called Monday by the Philadelphia's PSPCA and asked to take a young mini-labradoodle with compound fractures of the ulna and radius. Her leg was temporarily casted and she was on tramadol for pain. She had been hit by a car. Her only treatment choices were to amputate the leg or have specialized orthopedic surgery to save her leg!
We took her in, and then took her to the renowned vet orthopedic surgeons in Red Bank, NJ. She is going to the operating room today to save her front leg. The surgery will cost approximately $4000, and the vet practice insisted DRC take out a credit card with them so they were assured payment the day of the surgery!!!!
This a such a difficult time of year for all of us. We understand the financial limits of families in this economy, especially during the holidays. Unfortunately the homeless doodles continue to need us all, only escalated by the economy. On Monday we rescued another young doodle in Augusta, GA who was scheduled to be euthanized since she was heartworm positive!!
Please consider making a small donation to save Dakota's leg, and allow further doodles to be saved from euthanization. You can contribute to the SAVE DAKOTA's LEG FUND on the main page of the DRC. Thank You

Dakota has had her orthopedic surgery and the vets think she will be able to walk and run normally, after she heals. Tomorrow she comes home from the vet hospital and goes to her foster home for healing. It's very sad, she looks like she'd been recently groomed, and when the vets shaved her to spay her (while she was asleep for the leg repair) they found a spay scar, so someone must have cared for her at one time. Sadly, she wasn't microchipped nor wearing any identification when she was hit by the car. She remained in the local animal shelter without being claimed prior to being sent to PSPCA....

Oh LIZ! God Bless you for taking her in! The poor, poor baby!!
I can't donate right now, but I will see what I can do later. What happens if someone doesn't pay this bill???
I recall when we had Bogart in the ER, one of the techs owned a dog who had a similar experience. In that case, the vet wrote the bill off and the tech kept the dog. Is that a possibility?

Unfortunately, the vet isn't giving us any discount!!! The responsibility of the bill goes to the executive director and her assistant of DRC (Jacquie and Lynne) They had to sign an actual "personal loan" in order for the vet to do the surgery!! The rest of us (directors) are trying to promote fund raising until we have the bill totally paid.
We felt we had no choice, the PSPCA was planning to amputate her leg unless a rescue stepped in to provide the orthopedic surgery. That is why PSPCA called us to rescue her. She's a really sweet girl, who was "in a sea of pitbulls" in the Philly branch of the PSPCA.

Hi Liz, I didn't see this until now...how is the dog doing? How much have you collected so far? What is the amount left for this dog? (I know that other dogs will need the help...but it would be nice to know how close you are to your goal for this baby.)

I am not able to donate at this time, unfortunately, we are up to our eyeballs in our own expenses for the Gabby Jack Ranch...but I wondered if you had seen this link: http://dogtales.wordpress.com/funds-for ... ergencies/

I will certainly keep you in mind the next time I sell a puppy and will pass along some of the fee to your worthy cause...you are doing a great service. Bless you all.

Oh Jac, That is so kind of you.
The fundraising for Dakota's surgery is going very slowly. Her total surgical fees are $4000, and so far we've raised $1185.27.
