If anyone lives in this area of New York....Zsa Zsa was lost on Saturday, and as of this posting has not been found..
This was posted on Facebook and Doodle Kisses MISSING LABRDOODLE!-PLEASE HELP!!!-URGENT!!! Thank You in advance! The Mt. Vernon shelter has been notified as well as the police departments around and the mounted police in the neighborhood. Flyers are up and volunteers are out. She isn’t wearing tags because she was just transported and the family has the tags in her package with her papers. She is wearing a pink collar. The family was to get her microchipped, but they lost her within the first 45 minutes they had her. There was a parking attendant and some kids with a possible sighting just now at Bronxville Boy Scout Field.. It’s close to their home. No guarantees, but a good shot because they described her size and “floppy” ears, said she was dark – possibly dark gray or black – and skittish. She is actually the color of silver in sunlight with amber/brown eyes, weighs 50 lbs., and would be classified a medium-sized dog. Her hair is wavy and medium-length. She was spayed a week ago from yesterday. We fostered this dog for three weeks and worked very hard on her socialization as she was an owner surrender from a breeder. We drove to Mt Vernon from NJ and went out with a flashlight till 2 AM. To no avail... Our main worry is the safety of the dog due to train tracks and busy streets, plus her just getting off transport from TX and being completely unfamiliar with her surroundings. She was truly in the family’s possession for only 45 minutes, so she will have no imprinting as to where “home” was supposed to be. Ugh. Sick to our stomach. PLEASE NOTIFY ME IMMEDIATELY IF YOU SEE HER OR SHOULD HAVE HER IN ONE OF YOUR FACILITES!! This dog belongs to The Doodle Rescure Collective.. 917-439-6403 Lost Dog - Lost Poodle in Fleetwood NY Lost on 11/07/2009 Name: Zsa Zsa (ID# 184392) Gender: Female Breed 1: Poodle Breed 2: Labrador Retriever Color: Silver Size: Medium Postal: 10552 (Fleetwood NY) REWARD! I am praying so hard for this dog...she doesn't have a lot of good things going for her right now...poor thing, recovering from spay, probably going to several homes, then to the vet, then the long trip to her new owners...imagine how frightened and alone she is...and I especially worry about her spay...that puts her in a weakened state and I am just sick about this.
I hope that loving doodle families in the area will band together, armed with treats, and comb the neighborhood... ugh...so sad... |

I know, Jac! That recent spay really concerns me as well.
This is such a heartbreaking event! I refuse to allow negative thoughts about her at this time. I am going to picture her in someone's home where she is being fed and loved until that SOMEONE figures out what to do with her. Even if they wind up KEEPING her.......just as long as she is SAFE! Prayers for a happy ending and that we find out where and how WELL she is!

Zsa-Zsa has been sighted coming out of a wooded area behind the neighborhood, near where she ran away. There are >600 flyers distributed, the New York dog rescue community has come up to the plate helping Doodle Rescue Collective (DRC) finding her, volunteers from the Yonkers and New Rochelle shelters have been out combing the neigborhood and wooded parks. Mt Vernon dog warden is even looking on her own time, after her duty hours. Volunteers have been leaving out dog food on paper plates. We are still very optimistic we will find her and get her back. The next step, DRC is hiring an animal trapper, with safe live traps baited with food. Keep the prayers up.

Very, very tragic and heartbreaking ending to the story: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=189546761299
In case you don't have Facebook access: Rescuers are an interesting group of people. Passion is sometimes an understatement. Rescuers aren't only the individuals who are a part of an "agency" who fill out the forms and pull from the shelters. A rescuer can take the role of the woman who owns cats but drives on her day off to wave a rotisserie chicken through the woods to look for a lost dog. A rescuer can be the 10-year-old girl who puts up the posters and the updated posters and the updated updated posters. A rescuer can be the one a thousand miles away that says at least one prayer per day for the safe return of a lost pet. On behalf of the DRC, we want to thank all the rescuers who helped us in the search for Zsa Zsa, the beautiful silver labradoodle that was lost soon after joining her forever family when she spooked and bolted. It is truly amazing that so many individuals, so many RESCUERS, were involved in trying to save this dog, going beyond what any of us could have anticipated. So many people answered the plea for help. The hours spent on the search were staggering. The adoptive family's neighborhood became quite involved in the search as well. Sighting after sighting were called in to them, only to have Zsa Zsa dart for cover in the woods attached to the neighorhood. Another call came in today that she had been seen near the highway. The husband and wife loaded into the car once again to try to get to her. Before reaching the site, another call came in. Absolutely not the call that one wanted to hear, but they were informed that Zsa Zsa had been hit by a car. She was killed instantly. The couple called in for local police help while they wrapped her in a blanket and took her for the first and last visit to what would have been her vet. They kept her collar as a tangible momento of the love that they had for the dog they knew so shortly, but loved so much. The family have two school-aged children who were taken out of their classrooms today, taken home and told the news. Please say a prayer for this family's healing. And while you are praying for them, thank God or the one to whom you pray that Zsa Zsa touched lives while she was with us. As her first and only foster home, We can tell you she was a very special beautiful pet. With heavy hearts and many tears, The Doodle Rescue Collective |
