Default Free doodle in Medford, OR.

Contacted this lady on Craigs list. The ad can out today...
Would have considered her if she was not fixed as she is apparently from a testing & responsible breeder.
She told me...
"My dog is female, 8 months, I believe 3rd generation. She is fixed. She weighs about 45 pounds and is a bundle of love. My husband cannot tolerate a big dog in the house and I want her to find a good home before we are all miserable. I love her dearly which is why I need to find the appropriate home for her. We have a bichon who is 13 as well."

Contact me if you would like to further pursue...

Judi, could you get back in touch with her and tell her to contact her breeder? I think it is so important to start by letting the breeder know...usually the breeder will take the dog back, right? (You would, I would...so would the others on this forum.)

UGH - I'm going to throw in my 2 cents. I am a total craigslist lurker....and not meaning to speak directly about this lady giving up her doodle, but there are SO many ads that are just like hers. My dog is to big....we didn't know he/she was going to get this big. I mean REALLY, come on, how did you NOT know your doodle (or any other large breed dog) was going to get that big. Even if you did absolutely ZERO research on a doodle and the only thing you knew was a doodle is a Lab and a Poodle....have you NEVER seen a lab before? Do you not know how big they get?

And how the HECK does size have anything to do with being an indoor dog? Small breed dogs can be JUST as destructive as a large breed dog. Sorry, the "my dog is to big" excuse really just irriates the heck out of me. I guess I'm kind-of bias to the large breed fellas. I saw an ad the other day for a man giving away his MASTIFF because it had gotten to big. I just don't think SIZE alone should be the reason why you rehome your dog. Do some basic research before getting the dog if size is ever going to be an issue.

-Getting off my soapbox now-

You are so right...I could not agree more. When people ask me how big my puppies will get I always tell them that I don't know, that I expect them to be xxx but that they could easily get to be 80 lbs! Most of them say they love big dogs...but some people hedge and try to get me to promise that they won't get big! Those are the customers I usually direct elsewhere.
In my application and in my contract I have a clause that there is no guarantee as to size, coat color, coat quality, shedding or "hypo-allergenic" qualities...still, people get things in their mind about it...
But even if you thought you were getting a 15 lb dog and it grew to be 100 lbs...wouldn't you still love it? I mean, can you imagine sending your kids away because they got too big???

A different version of "my dog is to big" was why Samson was given up. He was "eating his previous owner out of house and home". Had just gotten so big and needed to eat so much. My response was "REALLY?!?! You got to be kidding me".

I know there are plenty of good reasons why an unforeseen event may happen and you need to rehome your dog. And I applaud the people that are out really looking for a good home for their dog (or going back to the breeder, if possible) instead of just dumping their dog off at the local animal shelter. I just think there are to many crummy excuses out there that people use to rehome.

On the flip side of Samsons case though - I know there are a lot of people out there that have lost their jobs or something has happened where financially it may be impossible to feed their dog. Wish there was something like a doggie-food bank for those situations. I have been noticing a lot more 'no money for food' situations on craigslist also.

Regardless, I hope this doodle finds a happy forever home soon!

its really sad that people are so caught up in themselves that they don t realize what
an additional family member will bring to the table..

so unfair to put a any dog thru this..cuddled as a pup then being punished for being to
big..

we wanted a small doodle..and Toby was the runt of the litter..so my expectation s were that
he d lean more towards the medium size..then he started growing..and growing..when will
this stop ..but, the bigger he got the more i loved him..love handles and all

for a 80lb + dog..everyone say s he s the most well behaved indoor dog they ve ever met..

my hope is the doodle will find a new home..one which will appreciate their fine qualities..
