Default Copper's in CT

Here's Copper, a young female rescued doodle, just arrived. She's very timid, but sweet. She just wants to be a velcro dog. It looks like she's had a litter of pups in the past, is now spayed. She'll be listed on IDOG/petfinder as soon as I figure out the technology of it!! It looks like she's not used to living in a house, so she has some learning to do, which we know doodles are good at!! She adores company, both canine and human.

Hahahahaha...I think you're right!!!! I'd just have to talk a certain someone into it!
If I could spit across the river, Copper can't be any more than 5 miles away as the crow flies.....think I'll send this link to him...

Oh Kathie, Copper is tugging at my heartstrings. I just have to figure how to convince Harry that we need a FOURTH dog!!!
Copper loves the water, she jumped into our pool and paddled all around, the other dogs stared at her as if to say, "What are you crazy?"
She follows Seamus around like the pied piper, and even kisses him on the chops.
Tonight I played ball with them in the yard, and Copper LOVES balls, she just doesn't have any practice with catching them, she takes off into a doodle 500 when I throw the ball, she runs right past the ball, eventually realizes she missed the ball, runs back and puts out her front legs as she nears the ball, looks just like she is David Ortiz sliding into home plate!!!

Liz...sounds like a love match to me!
She is really a sweet girl...looks like she has not known much love but she knows how to receive it and how to give it....she has a lot of joy ahead of her...I hope that she finds a home with you.

Keep your fingers crossed, someone has inquired if Copper would be a good therapy dog with a middle school principal!! The superintendent and principal have researched the topic, and have determined that a LD or GD would be the best breed, and they now are looking at rescue doodles to find the perfect doodle! What a wonderful job that would be for a doodle!! I think Copper would be excellent. Imagine to go from working as breeding stock for a BYB and treated like chattel, to then morph into the special doodle that the entire school loves!!! What an opportunity it would be for her, and she clearly has the temperament. She's also just old enough to start serious training.
....I'll keep you all posted.

WOW!!! I have thought about going back to teaching..........even if just subbing......and wondered if they would discriminate because I have a service dog.
Ya know..........I guess I could just send in my resume and not mention my disability. THEN if they won't let me bring Bogart....hmmm....could that open up a huge problem??
Sorry to be off topic, but the last post made me think of this. WHY NOT?? Why shouldn't a principal or teacher be able to have a Service dog?

Linda,
I think that's a wonderful idea. And if I were you, I'd be up front with my disability, and the great work you do with Bogie in dealing with it. If they were reluctant/ prejudiced then I wouldn't want to really work there!!
You will have so much to offer kids, both you and your sidekick. Resilience is a lifetime coping skill we can't teach to our kids in a book. They learn this by role modeling and coaching . This may be one of the greatest gifts you can give your students.
By the way, look in your message box about a good article in the Wall Street Journal with service dogs.

Copper has wonderful news, she's going to her family tomorrow!! I sent her to foster with a lovely retired couple in MA, and she took to being a family dog like she was meant for it. We found a wonderful retired couple who had lost their elderly dog, live up in VT and are happily awaiting the arrival of their girl. She even had the opportunity to live with a French exchange student during her stay in MA>
The photos will follow.
