Default Maggie might be meeting her new parents

Maggie is an 11 month old GD foster I've had for the past 6wks. She is recovering from a poorly healed front leg fracture. For the past 2 months she's been casted and crated. What a tough time on her, she's been dying to get out and play. Well, her cast is finally off, and she is expected to meet a family who have been waiting for her for 2 months.
She's an adorable, irreverent rascal. She has very few manners. I've taught her sit and stay and lay down, and wait. But she's a true doodle, last evening I turned my head and she appparently stood up and grabbed the kitchen sponge from the back of the kitchen sink, and proudly started chewing it like a new nylonbone, and then carried to room to room like a trophy. I had to do lots of gymnastics to get it away from her. Unfortunately she is very mouthy, I don't know if you can call what this 65 lb almost 1yr giant does with her teeth to get her way, mouthy. Her teeth don't break the skin, so I think I can safely say she's "mouthy".
Despite her days of confinement, she runs fast! When I call her, she turns tail and runs the opposite direction. I'm getting attached to her, despite her rascally behavior. Hopefully she'll make a good impression on her family today, and their other dog. They are very experienced in training prior dogs. They seem like a perfect fit. Keep your paws crossed!!

Oh, Liz, I hope it goes well! Please let us know!

Personally, I love that "mouthy" touch...so long as it is not an angry thing or an intentional "bite"...my dogs often just take a hold of my arm...very gently, very lovingly... I actually read where dogs "massage" each other this way and it is a bonding, caring sort of thing.

Maggie made a great impression with her new parents! Sadly, their elderly standard poodle died a week ago, Maggie was to be the third dog for their pack. Now she'll join an elderly Scotty, and with time they'll get her another doodle sibling. They have loads of experience with behavior training of dogs, and the Mom works out of the home, so she'll have plenty of human contact that she really needs. They can't wait until they can bring her home!
My husband is happy to finally reclaim his living room from her giant crate and play area, and he's relieved I won't be begging him to keep her. Seamus may miss her, he's developed a habit of napping by her crate, and now she's out of her cast, he has a doodle to play with. I'll just have to reassure him there will be other fosters who need us in the future.

Oh, such bitter-sweet news...
This family will love the joy and antics of their new Dood and it will help them deal with their loss...I hope that Maggie will soon have another Dood to play with!

Awww Liz....how great for Maggie to have her new home, and your hubby his living room back! (for now) Now maybe you and Sheamus can get over here to the Bark Park and have a playdate with Raleigh! I know they'd both love it !!

Yes, I too cried after Maggie left with her new family. She'll be in a home with very dog savvy parents, kids in college, and lots of acres to run and play. The family were not wary of her obvious limp (from the healed fracture and now shortened leg), they have lots experience in training dogs. I did tell them (through my tears) "If she doesn't work out, be sure to call me anytime", but it looks like they will be wonderfully happy. The parents even have a puppy LD sister for a playmate for her.

Aw, Liz, that is a perfect home! Congratulations!
I know those tears...and wanting only the best for a beloved dog that you are saying goodbye to...but I promise, when you hear about how wonderful Maggie's life is you will feel sooooooooo very warm and happy!

what a wonderful thing you've done - both for this family, and more importantly for Maggie

It's terrible when they leave you I understand how you feel completely - when our foster doodles go to their new family I always cry, but I know they're going to their forever home and a full and happy life. Such a bitter-sweet time, but she'll be as happy as anything with her new puppy sister

I really think animals understand and appreciate the kindness we show them, as we recently met some of our past foster doodles on a walk - and me and Martin (by lovely husband) were over the moon that even 6 months on they remembered us! (I cried then too! )

good luck with your next foster dog
