Default 1 1/2 yr old female in RI

I guess a dog being sold for $200 could be called a 'rehome' - it makes me so sad, disposable dogs..this is the reason cited for getting rid of her:
"Labradoodle cream female for sale. Cricket is a good girl, she is just too big for us. 100% housebroken. She loves everyone, great with kids. Great with other dogs, I'm just afraid she is too clumsey for a little dog"
She's so cute, I would adopt her, or foster her if I could:

What a cutie! I wish I was closer, but Kevin says 3 is all we can handle (adopted or fostered).

I missed this topic, was the labradoodle a large dog or small dog...we had a family that wanted us to rehome there dog but long story , and it did not end well...
When we had found a home for her , they wanted us to ask 1000.00 for her....what a disgrace...so they took her back and I have a feeling tried to sell her on a web site such as this..We offered them 500.00 but that wasnt good enough for them....they showed up at our door with a local cop...thinking we would be packing pistols in our belt I guess...

It was the most horrible experience we have ever had ....rehoming a dog should not cost money if your concern is for the welfare of your dog's future only...
Sometjimes people amaze me in a sad way ...

How deplorable!!! Those people don't even deserve to own a dog!!! They are selling their dog as if he were a used appliance!!! And what deplorable people haggling with a breeder, MT, who out of the goodness of their heart are trying to find a good home for the dog these owners want to discard like trash.

It also really angers me when people try to get a rescued dog in order to "get a bargain". What priorities will they then have for that dog's health and wellbeing for his lifetime, and will they make a lifetime committment?? Sometimes it is extremely expensive (as Jac well knows) to keep our doods in good health. Or will they opt to euthanize the dog if his health needs become costly? If I sense that cavalier attitude in an adopter applicant, I won't even consider them to adopt a doodle I have rescued!

I think that the dog must have been placed, the ad is gone.

It makes me, literally, sick when people rehome a dog because it is too big!!! Sick!

Would they give up thieir child when (s)he has a growth spurt?? No, they'd put him/her into a basketball program! What the heck are they thinking when they get a LAB or GOLDEN and POODLE cross???? Minature??? No...Labs are huge, Goldens are huge and standard Poodles are huge! Sheesh...stupid people.

In every contract I have, I REQUIRE that they bring the dog back to me for rehoming if EVER there is a need...and I REQUIRE that they not euthinize the dog without express permission from me (I'll bring it home first, if I think it is not about terminal illness or quality of life)...and I would enforce it in court if I had to.

Martha, you did the right thing...but , you know, if the cops came to my house, I would produce the contract and the cops would not let them take the dog.

My contract also says that on a rehome the first priority is to find a good, loving FOREVER home and that IF I get any money beyond the cost of rehoming, I will give it to the family. Leaves it wide open for me to do what's best for the dog.

Hope this helps...if you want a copy of my contract send me an email and I'll share it with you...

Hey Jac,
Our contract does say to call us first if the need arises to re-home. It was not specific at collecting money & sharing it with previous owner. I just thought you would assume that meant to "Re-home" only with out $$ involved. We have since changed the wording, to include what you stated..That is, IF any money is collected we would pass it on...

All of our clients in the past have been very cerebral...they come to us asking a zillion questions about the breed & care etc... ,we always get the feeling they are real dog people , with a humungous concern for their pups right off the bat that we are so reassured when they take our pups home...this case through me & Tom for a loop.

( I feel I was in error for not explaining the money part first before we took her back. I thought her primary interest was providing a good home for her doodle. She put on a great show when she came to our home to drop off "Crystal" in our driveway , tears were flowing etc....)

I think she thought we would be getting $1000.00 for her & not sharing the $$ with her ( what she stated)....But naturally it wasn't the case..and you know the rest...funny how indignant she became when we told her no money would be involved. Tom had spent hours training her to not jump , found a great home within one week without small children with acres for dog to roam..we thought we had hit the "Jackpot" for her....went out of our way to please her then the SHI*** hit the fan......

We love dogs ....we especially love our dogs ..and all of our clients realize this....I remember the day she came to visit the pups to choose one & she asked me " are the pups going to grow as large as the parents???" BIG RED FLAG WAVING>>>>I should never had let her take that puppy way back when.....Oh well benefit of the doubt ....live & learn....

Im getting winded, thanks Jac....thanks all for listening....

Aw, Martha, I am so sorry that you and Tom are going through this...I know, it is a very hard lesson to learn...I learn something new every time I place a dog...you'd think I'd have it down pat by now, but no!!

I have no doubt aobut the love you have for your dogs/puppies...it shows.

Don't beat yourself up...it will be okay...sure wish that family you found was close to me! ha!
