Hello everyone,
We have come to the painful decision to rehome our 4 year old silver/black labradoodle, Trudy. She is very friendly, although a bit shy with strangers. She is very intelligent and would make an INCREDIBLE agility dog if you have the time and energy to train her. She needs a family that will make a big part of their lives. She just wants to be part of the family. She is housebroken and doesn't shed. The reason we need to rehome her is she jumps our fence. We have tried everything and she absolutely will not stay in the yard. Since we are gone much of the day we hate keeping her locked up, but have been out of necessity. Can you please offer a home to our Trudy?? Please PM me for my email and other info if you can help. Thank you so much Amy

If that's the only problem you are having with your dog- there might be some ways to fix this situation. Here is something that worked for a friend of mine who had a dog that was jumping a 6' fence regularly: http://www.ehow.com/how_4618235_prev...ver-fence.html

Thanks both of you. Honestly at this point we can't try anything else. We have spent several hundred dollars on various items(invisible fence, 15x15 foot kennel with cover, she broke out both through the cover and then broke the gate) trying to keep her in the yard, and frankly can not afford anything else. Besides one of the neighbors is angry and will call the pound on her if she gets out again. I just can't take the chance. Another of our neighbors had success with the PVC pipe suggestion above, so it is a viable option if anyone would like to try it.
Please send me a PM if you can help. We are desperate to find her a good home ASAP. The behavior I know is a direct result of lack of attention, but our daughter has severe health issues and has developed an allergy to the dog, so Trudy can no longer be inside with us. If you can make her a part of your family, please, please help us. Thanks, Amy

I wish I lived closer and could take another dog! She sounds like her problems are workable but your child's allergies are not. I am so sorry you have to go through this. Good luck!

There is nothing wrong with crating a dog inside while you are away, and supervising it outisde when you are home. Many many people have dogs without fenced yards and excerise them by walking them on a leash. There isnt really a reason to leave your dog in your yard unattended for it to escape. I hate to be impolite, but rehoming your doodle because you leave it alone in the yard and it escapes to find human companionship is unacceptable in my books. If you love your dog, take it for a walk for exercise, go to a dog park for it to play with other dogs.

Those who feel the need to judge, until you have walked in my shoes you have no idea what my life is like. My daughters health does now and always will come before a pet. She has a hard enough life, without battling allergies in her own home.

It looks like you found a good solution. I am sorry you have to go through this. Of course your daughter's health comes first! I think that this is one of the sad things about people saying the labradoodle isn't allergy producing. The fact is it depends on the generation and the dog and the person. This is not the first time we have seen someone have this heart ache. Good luck to you.

While many may have differring opinions about rehomes, stil it is NOT easy and quite hard to part with a pet. as one or all members
of the family are affected by this type of situation. We too have allergies and right now I am on meds for a severe infection as seasonal shedding is occuring at the moment but it will soon end HOWEVER I could NOT live like this year round again as in the past DAVE had to rehome his dog due to my whole family staying severely sick for over a year with infections from bad allergies and asthma. WE even tried putting him outside during the day or part of it. Giving that dog up broke all our hearts and we miss him to this day. One of my kids still is upset with me but he was was using a nebulizer up to 4 treatments a night. we constantly got sinus and bronchial infections the Doctors finally spoke up quite adamantly ... So FINDING a home was less cruel to our health and not being with a dog Regardless of the reason I am HAPPY FOR THIS FORUM as we have someone IN NEED and MANY PEOPLE come here not only to join and be a member but some for HELP. what may cause heartache for one causes happiness for another. I am happy to hear TRUDY may have another forever home soon PS had we not had to rehome Dave's dog years ago, we wouldn't have MAX and Peanut now

I am so glad that you found a good home for Trudy, it is a very tough decision and I am glad that it is working out well.
I just wondered if you notified your breeder? Most good breeders will take their dogs back and find good homes for them. I wanted to state that, even though you have a solution, for anyone else who might consider rehoming their Doodle. I wish you the best. |
