Default anyone in Kansas looking to adopt a real cutie?

http://lycos.oodle.com/view/2-year-o...217760614/usa/ I can't post a link to the picture but you can see it if you click on the link- he's so cute, looks well cared for but I guess owner is allergic to him.

Well, even though I wanted a puppy and have plans for one, I sent them an email about the dog. I have a few questions for them and will see what they say. Something about a dog needing a new home pulls at you though. If this doesn't work out, then I know I will have one coming in June. He does look cute and sounds so sweet. Actually he is the right age to enter therapy dog training as well, so we will see. Thanks for posting the ad. Maybe his owners will call me today and we can go from there. Of course, DH only knows I am planning on adding to our household later, but he loves animals and every stray that comes around he wants to keep them. Luckily we have found all their owners or I would now have about 5 dogs, lol. Wouldn't this be a nice Valentine gift?

Definitely a great Valentines gift.. he looks cared for, thats a plus when looking at a dog that needs to be re-homed. I have taken in rescue dogs that were so mistreated that it took years to build up their trust in humans; the dog in that ad didn't have that 'abused' look about him.

I emailed them and called the number listed and left a message. Maybe they found a home or are out. I showed Dave the picture and he thought he was cute and I guess he was listening when I have been talking about LDs, LOL. He asked how she could be allergic to it, told him nothing is 100% when it comes to allergies. If this is meant to be then they will call otherwise I will stay with my plans for the puppy later. Every picture of the doodles I fall in love with, they are the most beautiful dog, every coat, every dog!! Good thing I know I only want one more dog, or I would have 50 of them.

Just wait and see what happens and go from there. Cindy

I just heard from Bono's owner:

Hi Cindy,

Thank you for your response! To be honest we did not expect such a rapid one. This is a hard move for us (we love our dog). You sound like you might be a good fit. We would like to take a couple of days to mull it over though. To answer your question, we live in Kansas City.

We'll get back to you soon with a few questions.

He probably would be a good therapy dog. Although he has never been formally trained. All he knows is "sit" and "stay with me" when we walk. He plays really well with other animals and people. We take him to the dog park regularly.

Thanks for your patience!

I emailed them back and told them I understood and included some more information about my home/family, etc. I told him to call or email if they have further questions. We will see. I am NOT getting my hopes up. I completely understand this is very difficult decision and one I would not want to make about the dog we currently have now. So, we shall see what happens. If it is meant to be.......

Cindy

It's a very good sign that they care about who their dog goes to- I would be worried if they had responded with their address & told you to hurry up and come get him. Good luck & keep us informed- he sure is adorable

This is the dog that kirama is posting about in KS. So what do you think of him? I haven't heard back today from the owners, but they wanted a few days so am giving them their time. He is about 2. I just wonder how hard it is to rehome an adult dog? Any ideas out there, if I get him?

When we got our Buddy (not a doodle) we still had Bridgette and she was 13 years old. Bridgette was in the car and we put Buddy in the car for the hour drive home. Bridgette growled buddy onto the floor and would not let him up the whole trip. At one point I reached back to reassure Buddy but he was so freaked out he nipped me. Bridgette went for him and I had to take off my seat belt and let Bridgette know that was not acceptable behavior. When we got home we separated the dogs for the night. Bridgette slept where she usually did and Buddy slept with my husband. Things were much better later. So my suggestion is DON'T do as we did.

The dogs adjust but the idea is to make that adjustment as smooth as you can. Remember respect your current dog's needs. We did not do that and it was not a good experience. Of course you have to really know your current dog's needs and reassure them as much as possible. I think you will do fine. You are asking for advice and he looks so sweet. From what I have learned here the big thing is take it slow. Good luck we are keeping fingers and paws crossed for you.

I don't know how it is in other parts of the country, but where I live there are a huge number of adult dogs that need re-homing, the shelters are packed, there are ads in grocery stores, craigslist, etc. Alot of people here are losing their homes and moving into apartments where they can't have pets, it's really heartbreaking because from the photos of these pets you know they were loved and well cared for.

Good luck Cindy! I hope this works out for you. I can't imagine how hard it is for the current owners.

The current owner called today. They have decided to give up Bono. Evidently she only has difficulty with allergies and him during the winter. She also is a teacher and feels like she doesn't have enough time with him during the school year. I told her that I put a deposit on a puppy and told her about "I Dog". I am not sure if they will contact them or not, but they do want to give him away. So if anyone is interested in an older labradoodle check him out.

How sad. Esp since she isn't "truly" allergic to him. I hope they do contact IDOG and that he can find a great home.

Weren't Chas, Carol and Ozzie in New Mexico looking to adopt a second doodle? Kansas isn't that far, esp not for that cute face! Just a thought.

I tried to look at the link, but it's not there anymore. I'm wondering if they found someone.
