Thanksgiving dinner, anyone?

Just walked outside to mow the lawn and found these guys walking through my yard...

They started out front...

Then walked around back where I could get nice and close from my deck
(they
weren't happy about it)

Sandy must have been snoozing away (or de-fluffing a toy) to have let that golden opportunity "fly" by.

Great photo! We used to have wild turkeys visit our yard. They stopped coming last year...guess they like MA better than NJ!

FoodLady, that is my all time favorite line from that show. I still crack up when I think about it.

IS it just me or are wild turkeys just about the ugliest bird on the planet? We have a lot of them around here too but not in my yard. I don't think they like my doggies.

This is weird, I had 3 fly from behind a hedge in front of my car yesterday. I came within feet of hitting them!

I even did the little scream & duck thing - couldn't help myself.

The builders said that as they were building our house, the turkeys would wander into the basement and eat their donuts! Once they found the food, they were back every day and they a heck of a time getting them out.

I know, this was the first time I've ever seen them fly (even though I knew they roosted in the trees at night)!

Bwahahaha...yes turkeys DO fly!!! Altho I've never seen them, they've roosted in our trees out back...it cracked me up when one sat on a particular branch, which didn't quite hold his weight, and he went crashing down to the next level which finally held him!!!

I crack up when they are all in a flock then go single file walking down to my creek with their "gait" almost makes you feel like you should have some New orleans music playing hahahaaaaa

I think some misguided fish and game department employee decided that they should be reintroduced in this area, so now we have them all over. Try avoiding a turkey meandering across your path when the road is a sheet of ice! We've also had turkey hens and a string of chicks wandering through our pasture; you could tell there were chicks only because of the way the grass moved; that was the only clue. I've also seen them fly across the river and roost in a tree there. What ungainly critters they are! In rural areas they can become true pests, and sometimes harass people who have the gall to try to use their own yards in peace. One woman I knew had a turkey that wouldn't let her even come out of her house without trying to chase her.

A couple of days ago we took our boat out on the river and saw a beautiful adult bald eagle, white head and tail flashing in the sun, flying overhead and then landing in a tree by the shoreline. We have a lot of them around here but it's always a thrill to see them. And then there are the turkeys....

That said, those are great photos!

Last month, jogging on a back road in Massachusetts' Berkshire hills, Betsy Kosheff passed a farmers' field where farm-raised wild turkeys were pecking for grain. Suddenly about 30 of them took off after Ms. Kosheff, who has a public-relations firm in West Stockbridge, Mass.

"It was like that scene in 'The Birds' except there was no phone booth," says Ms. Kosheff, referring to the famous refuge in the Alfred Hitchcock movie. A passing friend stopped her pickup truck and Ms. Kosheff ran around it several times. The turkeys kept up the chase, although she says "they were too stupid to split up or change directions" to trap her. Finally, Ms. Kosheff got in the truck, where, she says, her friend "was laughing so hard she almost choked on her Dunkin' Donut."

No kidding, Linda, that does NOT surprise me at all! I keep wondering whose bright idea they were - that and the black bears...They're down in our area too, now. You can imagine how happy the berry farmers are about that!
