Default People in the street

This morning I was taking Ruby out of the car to go for her walk in the local park. I often get people wanting to talk to her or ask me questions about what kind of dog she is, or just commenting about her color, (she is red) or her coat. Little kids especially seem very keen on her..

Normally I don't mind the interest and answer questions happily, but sometimes you get especially intrusive people, those that don't realise that if you are sitting talking to somebody it is rude to just come up and start a discussion about your dog without asking.

This morning there were two ladies who saw Ruby through the car window and couldn't even wait for me to open the back of the car to get her out before they came racing over asking questions, wanting to pat her, and making some pretty stupid comments between themselves, but in front of me, which I found really unnecessary.

Sometimes I think having a labradoodle makes you public property. Or is it just that there are generally a percentage of rude people who think that if you have a cute dog, they have the right to be all over it and you?

I get it all the time with Bogart. Especially, since I can take him anywhere.
I really don't mind it, but yes, there are times that I would rather be left alone.
Anyone saying things that are unnecessary between themselves is flat out rude. That would tick anyone off, especially when they start knocking a doodle for being a "designer dog".
We didn't get Bogart like a Louis Vuitton handbag and to show him off! We got him based on how great a combination they are. Yet, we have many posts here that will acknowledge people who have doodles being razzed about it. Sad that people have nothing better to do.

Juneau doesn't look like the "typical" labradoodle that people tend to have in and around our neighbourhood. Most of the ones that we have seen are the curly wool coated ones where as Juneau looks more like a lab with a bad fur day.

Needless to say, because of this not too many people come up to us because they think he's a labradoodle, they come up to us because he smiles and is just so excited about everyone and everything.

I'm sorry to hear that you had an unfortunate experience with some overly pushy people, it's not fare to you or Ruby to be bombarded when you're out and about. But at least you know you have an adorable beautiful dog who draws everyones attention and she belongs to you!

Would you believe, I dropped into Mcdonalds this morning to get a coffee, Ruby was in the car (you could see her through the window), and before I even got my order in the staff member asked me "is that the same kind of dog that the Obama's have?

Of course I answered yes, and was pretty happy that finally somebody seemed to know about Doodles without having to ask a bazillions questions.

I am continually amazed about the reactions you get!

On the issue of designer dogs, I went to a British poodle breeders association website, and they expressed genuine outrage that labradoodles should be allowed to even be called a 'breed'. They were really quite offended. It made me laugh, clearly they hadn't done their homework. If they knew why labradoodles had been bred in the first place, they would realise that these dogs are meant to be helpers in society, not some kind of threat to pretentious breeders who think owning a dog is some kind of status symbol.

People ask me if Bogart is a Bouvier first. He looks just like my Bouv I had years ago except without the cropped tail and ears.
But.....Obama has a Portaguese Water Dog (PWD)..........and I get that a lot too.
Was it easier for you to just say he is a PWD?

Oops! Now I am showing my ignorance. Here in Australia, alot of us thought that the Obamas had a labradoodle, but obviously not.

Thanks for clearing that up.

That's OK!! The Obama's were debating getting a rescue dog, then a Labradoodle........then decided on a PWD.

I totally agree. Certain people go out of their way to call them mongrels and mutts. They were bred for a good cause and people call them Labradoodles because it's far easier than saying "Oh yes, she's an F1 Labrador x Poodle Cross".

Read the comments here, it's kind of pathetic..

Ontopic:
KC gets stopped constantly but she's quite afraid. Especially last time because someone dropped a tennis racket by her and she bolted.
"With great power comes great responsibility"
I guess that's the only thing that can be concluded from it, but they're adorable dogs so I can understand why people would stop and ask questions-regardless of how silly they are.

We even get stopped at the obedience classes. There are at least 40 dogs there and people want to find out about KC, ignoring the other dogs! Haha

with most people i like to address the issue of designer dog..

i like to remind them that all dogs were at one point a designer dog..whether it was by accident or deliberate..throughout the the history of dogs..man continually cross d one dog with favorable characteristics with another in hopes in getting desired results..
