For those of you who think that only bad breeders won't allow people to come to their homes...here is one good reason why breeders should NOT allow it...(Although, this breeder sold pups on Craig's list...sheesh.)

oh and ugh!!! in today's times it's tough ......but that story shows how one's puppies not only could be stolen but also your home
later on could be burglarized and put your own safety at risk as well. #2 reason.......PARVO seriously, i think breeders should re-think how they sell their pups and how they advertise. GREAT POST JAC !!!!

How sad! I hope these puppies get returned, because who knows what kind-of conditions the puppies are in now or will be sold into.
For breeders I'm sure its a hard balancing act between the safety of your puppies and your home and finding homes for them. Before coming to this forum I thought any breeder who did not allow a potential buyer to see where the puppies were born and living at was an irresponsible breeder who probably had something to hide. But the more I hear from you guys, and by reading stories like that I see that breeders are put at a lot of risk by letting strangers come into their homes to view pups. |

How sick! That is just awful! I wonder what the chances are of those pups being returned. I hope those morons treat them well, at least.
Yeah......letting strangers into one's private home is rather scary. Especially if these people come via craigslist. I used to advertise some of my listings on there and learned that it wasn't a good idea.........the kooks came out of the woodwork! I won't get into details, but now after learning, I have opted for home protection for my home and also for my job. I have been exposed to too many bizarre things in vacant homes and open house situations. I now carry my handy dandy .357. Breeders be safe! It's not just the pups.....but it's an invite into your home with people you know nothing about!

I agree with all of these reasons,
another ,,, safety of my family ,home ,etc Im not now nor will i ever allow home visits to "choose a pup" breeders know their pups better then a person coming to choose a pup in person,, they cant possibly know the pups like we do in 15min Right now, I do have some older pups that have had all shots,, i am allowing them to choose from 2 pups in person, after a non refundable deposit is placed, and numerous chats on the phone,, Heck my experience they always go with my first recommendation anyway,, after spending a hour deciding,, sheesh,,LOL |

Yeah I'd say after you've talked to the person numerous times AND they've put money down than it might be safe - but otherwise I'd be worried to for my home safety.
LOL - so what do you say to the people that take an hour picking only to pick the pup you said they'd like right off the bat? LOL....that would be frustrating to me. I'd have to say something like "TOLD YOU!" |

LOL ,, that is basically what i say,,
im getting the point i give them 30min then i say "this is one reason why we dont do this in person normally" bare in mind our puppy orientation last over a hour, going over training tips, etc that in itself takes alot of time we need to get to it,, once the pick the pup i advised before which thinking bout it has been the case thus far, i just smile,, lordy,,lordy,,LOL |

I have ALWAYS made sure that someone is at home when (even if they are in the backroom), when people come over on puppies.
Tuesday is mellow, so I also have had her at my side in recent years....she is a good size so someone would have to think twice about causing problems... She has never bit anyone but ran, jumped up & body slammed a guy that we kept running into in the woods...(we never saw him again, after repeatedly running in to him after constantly changing days and times... Also another reason for micro-chipping..... be sure to let them know..they CAN be located eventually! Overall.... I have met some great people, many have gone on to be long time friends & repeat customers. You just have to ALWAYS take precautions!! |
