Hello everyone!!
Laptop and Desktop CRASH!!! #1)First of all....THANK GOD FOR CARBONITE..........the back up system! Just for the heck of it, I decided to purchase Carbonite last December 2009. I highly recommend it! It's only about $55 a YEAR! After recovery......I just had to go to the Carbonite site last night, and while I slept, it retrieved all my "stuff"!! It was unable to retrieve all my FAVS and BOOKMARKS, however. So........I spent a lot of time trying to find things like.....even THIS SITE!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CARBONITE!! http://www.carbonite.com #2) I know annmarie will be all over my case about....."Do you clean up your computer?" Well.........not enough apparently! BUT!!! Of REAL INTEREST to some of you.....you might want to take this into consideration! This morning, I went to see all the pictures that someone had placed in a thread. I was asked to install, I think it was, Adobe. DID YOU KNOW THAT WHEN YOU DO THINGS LIKE THIS, IF YOU DON'T READ EVERYTHING, AND YOU ACCEPT THEIR TERMS ETC.........YOU ARE ALSO INSTALLING THINGS LIKE NORTON SYMANTEC OR MCAFEE????????????? I never read the agreements like I do now and I had conflicting security systems going on.........so basically, I was unprotected on BOTH computers! Also, things like other security systems are deeply hidden in your PC. It appears that I already may have reinstalled Symantec without even knowing I did, so I'll have to call INDIA again! It may take some time before I can view pictures on here etc..........Right now, I am being asked to do so many things I am afraid to do! So, my participation may be limited until I know what I am doing! #3)I miss you guys! I will be able to do my moderator work and post.......but I will BE HERE!! I hope this is all over for now..........aside from the things I STILL have to do........I will participate enjoy as much time with you as possible! LOVE YOU ALL! Linda & Bogart

LINDA......my brother is using CARBONITE for his new business and from what i hear, it's a GREAT IDEA
i might consider it too as right now i use an external hard drive to store many things on. NOW i too will READ the terms of ADOBE better as i use Symantec already. I am NOT going to get on your case as i too had a computer crash years ago due to trojan horse virus etc NOTE: McAfree....i would NOT recommend using it at all!!!! i remember even when i was going to school for computer degree it crashed all our computers in a lab UGH! anyway..........AVG is a free antivirus program many swear by too. GLAD to have ya back part time LINDA

I will look into this too, Linda, thanks.
I just posted a story about computer hackers...they are tricky. One of the things that most of us do, without thinking, is click on those huge warnings that our computer has been infected...and that is when they get infected! My advice is to stay calm when you see those (hard to do) and to use control+alt+delete, highlight the warning and "end process"...because sometimes even clicking on the X to exit gets a download...and sometimes just shutting the computer off won't help. After ending the process I immediately run my spy doctor and registry mechanic. You really need both because we rely on the spyware and it doesn't help when the program has gotten to your registry (which is most dangerous)...so you need a registry cleaner too, and run it often...especially when you chance upon something that makes you worry. AVG is good, but it has the same problem that McAfee and Norton have...they are so big and used so often that hackers create similar looking notices and get you to download "updates" or something...and you think it is from them...but it isn't. |

I use Cyberdefender and so far, it's the best. The problem was that Mcafee and Symantec conflicted with it. That doesn't work!
Jac, you are so right! During the recovery, they told me not to freak out if it says your PC is infected.....and not to click on anything but call them right away. I think my last click was the fatal blow that finally crashed the laptop. Annmarie........I used to use AVG, but like Jac, found it not to be as effective and had some problems. Today, I'm going to try to install some things I need........and one of them has the Mcfee attached. You can say NO to it, but somehow, I still think it loads. SO! After I do that, I will find the free uninstall for both, Norton and Mcaffee. I love this hi-tech stuff, but it exists in a word where people have nothing better to do than try to mess with us!
