Happy 2010!
I received this in my email today...although I have seen it before, I like it and so I am sharing it for those who may not have read it. The author is unknown. If I Didn't Have a Dog... I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety. My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated. All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture & cars would be free of hair. When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without wading through fuzzy bodies who beat me there. I could sit on the couch and my bed the way I wanted, without taking into consideration how much space Several fur bodies would need to get comfortable. I would have money, & no guilt to go on a real vacation. I would not be on a first-name basis with numerous veterinarians, as I put their yet unborn grandkids through college. The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out, sit, down, come, no, stay, & leave him/her/it ALONE. My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby gates or barriers. My house would not look like a day care center, with toys everywhere. My pockets would not contain things like poop bags, treats and an extra leash. I would no longer have to spell the words B-A-L-L, F-R-I-S-B-E-E, W-A-L-K, T-R-E-A-T, R-I-D-E, G-O. I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as outside. I would not look strangely at people who think having ONE dog ties them down too much. I'd look forward to spring and the rainy season instead of dreading 'mud' season... I would not have to answer the question 'Why do you have so many animals?' from people who will never have the joy in their lives of knowing they are loved unconditionally by someone as close to an angel as they will ever get. How EMPTY my life would be!!! |

What a good post Jac!!! And how true! You wouldn't know joy for sure.
I wouldn't be happy that it's not going to be above freezing all week long in my town, which means the snow won't melt, which means I have one more week of NO MUD inside the house!!!! I would actually get up and take a shower first thing in the morning. Instead of waking up and thinking "it's Bath Day" for the boys, and there's no point of taking a shower before the boys get their baths first. And then they need their hair trimmed around their eyes, nails trimmed and than filed because rough freshly trimmed nails hurt if they aren't filed too. And than I have to clean the fur off the floor - and my gosh, the boys need their breakfast. Before I know it, it's 12:00 and I'm in my PJ's and haven't ate yet. But man it's worth it. |

if i didn't havea dog
i'd probably not get as many pictures watching them play and bounce in the snow. NOR would i have done snow angels as adult laying in the snow beside them last year hahhaaaaaaa i wouldn't have a foot warmer at night i wouldn't have laughed as much as i do now i wouldn't have companions when everyone else is not home. i wouldn't take rests to brush them and learn how to relax. I KNOW i'd be inside when it's 14 degrees outside but bundle up like i was 5yr old again looking like a bumble i know i'd sleep in more but then i'd lose more of my day i know when anyone paints i would have a dog dip it's paw or tail and have a good laugh while washing it off i know IF i didn't have a dog i'd not have gotten as many kisses. i wouldn't watch my teenage kids competing to see who can carry a 100lb doodle the longest without their knees giving out 1st hahahhahahaaaaaaaaaaaa LIFE without a dog ........i can no longer imagine that

Oh annmarie!! Now ya go me going!
If I didn't have a dog I wouldn't know what a doodle 500 is. I wouldn't watch where I walk when I get up to go to the bathroom at night. I wouldn't know when the feral cats came for food. I wouldn't know all the neighborhood dogs. Punk'n, Finn, Murphy, El, Jackson, Dudley, Banana, Henri, Rusty, Eddie, Walter, General, Elvis, George, Rocky, Jasper, Rufus, Widget, Sadie, Louie, Joseph and Harley! My Tahoe wouldn't be a kennel. The pet stores would go broke. I wouldn't have smiley wrinkles. I wouldn't have 3 pairs of warm yet fashionable boots. I wouldn't have an excuse to buy so many winter coats. I wouldn't have licks on my head while I washed my hair while taking a bath. I wouldn't have anyone to share all my bathroom experiences. I wouldn't have the set of adoring, amusing, interested, loving, understanding and talkative EYES looking into mine! I wouldn't know the JOY of little children who find love in giving a dog a belly rub and squealing with happiness over the kindness, love and tenderness of a dog!! I wouldn't know the warmth the elderly feel when they are recovering and touch a dog. I would NEVER know what its was like to be with a person who touched a dog for the very first time in their life.........even in their 70's!! ............and more and more and more!

This is really great, guys! Thanks...
Now you have me thinking... If I didn't have dogs (not a dog) ... My yard would be landscaped My house would be clean People would visit (hahahaha) I'd go out more I'd spend money on people-things instead of dog food, treats, toys and beds I could kick my feet out in the bed and not connect with anything I would be lonely, bored and self-absorbed I would not laugh as much I would not have a PhD in tail wags I would not have someone hanging on my every move I would not be greeted with joy every time I moved I would not be saying "quiet" all the time I'd drive sportscars instead of SUVs My vet would go broke I'd have matching socks I would buy my shoes from a real shoe store instead of getting the same type and color (disposable shoes) from Rite Aid I wouldn't worry about my Christmas tree being peed on I would not have clothes decorated with paw prints I would be sooooooooooooo alone... I would have lots of nice things, but I don't think I'd enjoy them, at least not as much as I enjoy the gaze from the most beautiful sets of eyes I have ever seen I would not understand that animals are angels |

This is great!!!
And.... I wouldn't have tumbling fur balls under the bed and in every corner I would never know when the mailman or Fedex or UPS comes or when any other vehicle had the audacity to drive by our house I wouldn't have anyone jumping over each other to greet me at the door I wouldn't have to push two immovable lumps over in a king size bed no less so I could squeeze in and get two inches of blanket to cover myself with I wouldn't have to wipe up the drool on the floor from two sets of eyes watching the fork go to the plate, then to the mouth and back I would be able to watch TV without having to switch stations at break so Raleigh couldn't 'see' the dreaded Swiffer or Celebrex commercials I wouldn't have any poop to pick up from the back yard, and scrape the soles of my sneakers with a stick, where I misplaced a foot I wouldn't have a big black nose peeking thru the shower curtain wondering where 'Mommy' is And when all is said and done, we would never know the unconditional love given us by our furry family members.. Yes, life would be very dull indeed...

OH WOW I wanna join:
I wouldn't have to pull more dog hair out of the shower drain than people hair. I would have 2 matching socks, or actually care when I saw a furry animal pulling a sock out of my clean laundry pile, instead of just shrugging and deciding it's not worth the fight. I wouldn't have "outside" shoes that are left at the back door just in case I step in poop. I would think it was DISGUSTING discussing animal poop, consistency, etc. I would only have 1 son instead of 3. That would be horrible! I wouldn't have to try and coordinate vet visits with doctor appointments so I only have to take 1 day off work instead of several. When I first get home, I wouldn't be greeted so warmly. When Issac is with his dad, I wouldn't have someone to talk to, that doesn't think I talk to much. I'd have to buy a pair of slippers, because my feet would be colder. And some extra blankets, because my lap would colder too. Non-dog people would actually want to come and visit and see the new pictures I hung up in the house, instead of just asking me to describe the pictures over the phone. I wouldn't be loved as much. I always have someone to watch a movie with. Love on me when it's been a rough day. Listen to me gripe. Teach me patience and how to relax. People say I spoil my doods, truth is - they spoil me with all that they give me. OH and I wouldn't be part of this forum - that would really suck. |

OK Alright...........i got ya's all going.
here's some MORE from moi IF i didn't have DOGS i wouldn't be able to write articles from my failures, to laughs and the art of pooper scooping and more! i wuoldn't have a quiet house............i happen to LIKE barking as at times it alerts me to pkg deliveries, friends at the door and CHIPMUNKS farting in the wind. if i didn't have a dog.........i wouldn't have Dave Honey my fiance, as he's the one who convinced me to get dogs again!!! If i didn't have a dog i wouldn't have such a great sense of humor when napkins disappear or others things that you find either under a coffee table or in their poop later on. if i didn't have a dog all my socks would be intact and match............how boring! if i didn't have a dog i would NOT KNOW WHAT UNCONDITIONAL LOVE REALLY MEANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if i didn't have a dog i wouldn't get as much fresh air, exercise and also in past trip over max at night as he's black as can be and i learned to turn ON the lights if i didn't have a dog.............I WOULDN"T HAVE MET YOU and MADE SO MANY FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF i didn't have a dog my life would still have a VOID in it . If i didnt' have a dog my grandbaby's face could not be licked clean by my dogs
