One thing I miss about Issac being a baby - when he would just lay on my chest and fall asleep. Always found that so comforting.
I was having a bad night last night - totally stressed about holidays, Issac lost his homework folder somewhere between school - daycare or home, tub drain is stopped up with something. I sit on the couch and Samson hops up, sits by me and lays his big ole head on my chest and just stays that way. Doesn't move, lick - nothing. Just sat like that for a good 10 minutes before deciding it would be more comfortable for him to lay down and stick his head on my lap. Amazing how they sense how you're feeling. Usually he'll hop up, his wet nose all over my face, begging for more attention. This time he was very calm and did exactly what I needed him to do to calm me down. I felt so much better after that. Doodles are AWESOME!!!! I seriously think Samson would make a terrific therapy dog for the elderly since he's so calm, attentive and has a great sense of his surrounding - if he just wasn't so hesitant around new people. He becomes a big mama's boy standing right next to me when new people come by. Oh well, obviously he's my personal therapy dog. |

Linda I'm not really sure if we do or not. I've been thinking about checking it out. He'd need OB training and socialization first and foremost though. And he's only 10 months old so he'd need to mature a little bit though-but I'm thinking about it.
He has a very calm demeanor 95% of the time, very loving - but in a gentle way. Most the time he just wants to be able to sit right next to me. And he's always the one, if I'm having a rough day to give me exactly the right amount of attention. BUT he's very hesitant around new people. It took him 2 camping trips and constant visits with my boyfriend for Samson to greet him openly at the door when the boyfriend comes over. My Mom have visited several times, Samson stays glued to my side. Never aggressive, always calm, will let anyone love on him if they come up to him - but is very shy. He is usually just content to watch whoever is visiting. So I'm sure we'd have to work on his confidence and socialization a lot. But I also think Therapy Dogs are AWESOME!! I'd love to be a part of something like that! |

Yes, they have to be at least a year old and have a certain amount of training. A CGC would be great! He'll have to get over the "new people" problem......you could start working on that right now!
Check out this site and see if it directs you to a place near you. http://www.therapydogs.com/

Seasmusmom...........go under stories and read what i just posted about what Peanut did for me with very SEVERE MIGRAINES
i think the title says Doodles HELP MIgraines---pics included. Peanut is a dog that will gravitate towards people somehow hurting and is ever soooooooo calm then esp/with kids. anyway..........doodles do at times seem to know what we need to be soothed and we have to stop, listen and trust them. I know when i did.......ohhhhhh it almost brought tears to dave's eyes and helped me tremendously even if only for a short while.
