OKAY so I'm freaking out! I went to pick up my 6 yr old son at daycare yesterday and a big note was on their front door saying that the daycare has received 2 confirmed cases of the swine flu in school age children. That's my son's class!!!! And OF COURSE no director or head teacher was there who knew anything about what was going on.
UGH - I don't think there's anything I can do to "protect" Issac, which freaks me out even more. I called his doctor this morning to see if there is anything I should do and/or can do in order to protect him. Nurse is supposed to call me back. Sorry - needed to vent! And I am a member of a Doodle forum but not a Mommy forum....LOL. |

OK before totally freaking out and losing sleep..........i know i'd be same way
BUT we had over 21,00 cases of confirmed swine flu in the county where i live My daughter, her fiance, his mom and two of her kids got SWINE FLU!!! but my grandbaby was 3mos old at time (now 6mos old) didn't get it Usually doctors will put people on med called Theraflu(not sure of correct spelling) but not always. Sometimes they wait for you to see if they develop FEVER and flu/cold like symptoms wh/if meds are taken within 48hours will REDUCE the flu. BUT at same time IF your son gets it, wearing a mask, along with sterlizing things etc does help reduce others getting it. Hang in there as it's a wait and see for now..........sorry to hear of this and I too would freak out but at same time you have no control THUS freaking out isn't good. Wait and see what doc says is good.

If anyone should know about this it's annmarie. I'm not sure if you recall when she was going through this, but it was awful for her and her family. It was so encouraging and such a blessing that the baby didn't get sick.
Take a deep breathe and try to relax. I totally know that's easier said than done.......and you and your family are in my prayers. The swine flu.....I don't recall it back in when?.......the 70's or 80's?? From what I heard, it was the vaccine that created more of a problem than the actual illness itself. In fact, it makes me hesitant to take the H1N1 vaccine in October. It appears, and annmarie's family is an example, that it can be miserable........but people are surviving it. I have a friend who is a doctor. She says her kids have it right now. She lives in Alabama. She said she's treating it with Tamaflu and with a cough medicine with codeine. Let us hear what the doctor's office has to say......and know you're in our thoughts and prayers. hugs

Well nurse misunderstood the message I left and thought Issac HAD the swine flu and when she called back said that she had set Issac up an appt and wanted to see him NOW.
I re-explained that Issac is fine right now but his daycare had the confirmed cases. SO she said to watch for a temp and when/if he develops one to call ASAP or just bring him in. Thank you all for your well wishes. I'm in Oklahoma so we haven't had THAT many cases here, and NONE so far in my town. So it's a little freaky that its here now. |

Don't get all freaked out...what they're saying here in Connecticut is that it's 'milder' than the regular flu....you're miserable for maybe a week and it's gone...no flu shots for me! The really affected ones are babies and the elderly, which is the same population that gets hit with the regular flu...we all know for a fact that the media sensationalizes and blows everything way out of proportion to scare the hell out of you!!! Hang in there, keep an eye on Issac, make him wash his hands constantly, give him a little bottle of Purell for school, and good luck!!!

He's doing A-Okay!!! The pollen and mold are high in Oklahoma right now, and Issac is suffering from some allergies, snotty nose, headaches, etc. His allergy symptoms always mimic an illness. So doc said unless Issac develops a fever or his allergy medicine just "stops" working, there is no concern. WHEW!!!
Thanks everyone for your prayers! I think we're going to be just fine. |
