Default Crouching doodle?

Before I even ask, I think this must be a result of Bogart being tired from chasing the chucker ball.........walking the beach for miles........swimming and of course, recently living on chicken and rice! HE FINALLY GOT SOME KIBBLE TODAY! WOOOOHOOOOOOOO! Just a handful, but we're trying to break him back in.
His meds are ALMOST gone...WHEW!!
Okay, the last 2 times on the beach, when we get close to the end, Bogart crouches. He just drops down in that sort of position like he's spotted something to attack.
Does anyone know what I mean?
I can call him and he rebounds fast and comes.....but then he'll do it again.
Yesterday, on the way back to the car, he did it 3 times. There was no obvious reason. Just KERPLUNK!
Could we be hurting our doodle??

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I also have a horrible story! Yesterday, we were in town and stopped at one of my favorite shoe stores. This place has shoes that are sold in all the big time stores around the country. GREAT, but expensive shoes.
ANyway, I'm walking around and Walt is sitting down with Bogart.
All of a sudden, Bogart ket out a bloodcurdling SHRIEK, CRY!!! And he leapt forward SCREECHING!
Okay.......I started to shake and a little cry and got down on my kneees hugging him and tears in my eyes.
The salespeople were shocked too!

You know what I think happened??
We had his electronic collar on him. HE NEVER WEARS it anymore, but since we've been in the woods and beaches........he had it on for instant recall. There are bear and coyotes up here and I want him to COME immediately.
I think the "zapper" was accidently hit in Walt's pocket. that was the only explanation I had. HOW? I have NO CLUE! Either that, or he was stung by a bee....it was just awful and I seriously can't forget it. My doodle has NEVER, EVER cried like that!!

Hmmm, don't know about the crouching, unless he spots something new that he wants to play with...like Dakota's cougar game...if he isn't in pain it is probably something new that interests him...

The shock collar...well, my experience with a citronella collar (I'll never use one again) was that it malfunctioned! Lexie (my barker) had it on...I was in the office...she came streaking into the office, scampered under my desk and was pawing at her face frantically...the dang spayer would not shut off! I grabbed it, held my hand over the spray, took the collar off and had to take the battery out. Poor Lexie was terrified...I felt horrible...

Sorry, I understand your motivation ... purely to keep Bogie safe...but I really hate devices like that...I don't have any options for you though...and I am not judging...I know you love Bogie and want to keep him safe...but I have no advice...

I know, Jac. They do sound awful........and we rarely use it. If this is what happened, it is truly unfortunate and made me want to throw it in the street.
My general feeling on them is that they really are only there for dire emergencies. For example, right now on vacation, our cottage is right on the lake and there is a road not too far from the front door. At night, there are deer, racoons, skunks and all kinds of critters. As well trained as Bogart is, I feel secure knowing that should he disobey and take off after something toward that road.....he will come back. Bogart hardly wears it and when he does, it's ONLY a "just in case" type thing..........yet, that "just in case" turned into a verrrrrrrry sad ocurrance IF that is what happened and I think it was.

I think we figured out the CROUCHING!!
Walt and I had a little "to do" over this. When we got to the beach yesterday, before you get to the water, there's tons of sand to walk on and fairly deep.
Bogart hit the sand and within seconds, went down. I called him, and it looked like he was limping....and went down.
I freaked out thinking he had injured himself jumping out of the Tahoe.
Walt just kept walking toward the lake and telling me it was his paws hurting.
This was pathetic! I seriously wanted to bash Walt over the head with Bogart's chucker!!!
He crouched down about 10 times before he hit the water!
THEN HE WAS FINE!
His paws must he irritated and he can't do deep sand!! WHen on the packed sand and in the water, he's just fine!
After our walk, when we got to the area where the sand is deep and leads to the car, Bogart just looked at us like OH NO!!
So, we walked him down to the pier where we could lift him up on to the cement........and he was fine.
Last night, I rubbed them all down with Neosporin,of course, he licked it off!
