Default Always something........Bogart

Bogart ate this morning....went outside and threw it all up.
Walt took him to the hospital today and he visited with kids and seniors.
He came home and was doing fine..........He's not at all lethargic and his nose is wet.
So, we fed him again..he ate and immediately threw it up!
He drank some water and seems to be holding it down.
He was just out in the yard playing fetch.

I called the vet and am waiting for the vet to call back.
For now, they said no food today...........and water with ice in it so he doesn't drink it too fast.
Of course, I am concerned. If you recall Bogart's accident at 5 months where he almost died, I am sooooooo concerned about his stomach after that.

Any clues?...........and prayers please.

Linda, you are right to call the vet...my prayers are with you and Bogie...I hope that you get a good answer about what is going on.

I would be concerned that he vomited after he ate, both times. But, keeping water down is good...hang in there, friend...keep us posted.

oh (((((((((((linda)))))))))))))) i feel so bad for you and Bogie along with Walt.

NOW for once i am going to take a chance and be honest about an opinion
DO you think it's worth asking your VET if BOGIE may still be healing or this is related to his incident that
almost killed him???
if not does your VET know a pathogist vet that specializes in nutrition along with digestive issues?

i can ask my pathologist vet for a recommendation if you want .......email me and your area where you live
IF YOU WANT me to do this

ANYWAY I am SAYING PRAYERS that BOGIE gets better and you find the cause of this type of issue he has
on and off.

love
annmarie and family

First off all, this is kiling all of us. Poor Bogart is smelling his chicken boiling on the stove and staring at us for FOOD!! He's hungry! I mean he did eat 2 times but he threw it up. So, he has an appetite.
The vet called and said no food for 24 hours. He did say that he had several dogs in today w/ diahrea/vomiting. Some had both.....and some had one or the other. He said he was a bit shocked that this was going on. Other than that, he said that he could have eaten something again. I'm going with the virus that may be going on over ingesting something.

Kathie, he had vomited before going to the hospital visit. I had walked him 5 miles yesterday and wondered if he got something on the walk. We met up with only one dog yesterday that sniffed noses and butts. Usually, we find more on a five miler, but yesterday, only one. So, if it's a virus, I wonder where he got it. Unless the incubation period for this is longer. But, he hasn't been with any dog for over 4 days now.

Annmarie.........I have easked that question a few times and even after the incident. No one seems to think he was effected by it. But, I still wonder if his stomach is a little weak and may require a sensitive food diet.

Jac.............yes.....I get the vet involved asap every time. I'm not noticing that he'a drinking much water now, however. Bogart isn't a big water drinker. Sometimes that bugs me especially on walks. Except for that one time, I always have his collapsible bowl on me and a bottle of water. I pour him some and usually he's more interested in what's going on around him then drinking. I wind up throwing a treat in it so he has to fish it out!
That way he gets SOME!

Well..........what do you guys think. What could it hurt to give him a little boiled chicken and rice tonight? Seriously. What could it hurt? If he throws it up, then we'll know, right? If he doesn't.....well that will be good!

Tough call...if he has a blockage, eating can be harmful...but if it is a virus, he will just take what he can handle...

Is he okay with bowel movements?

He could have a blockage from the time a few weeks ago...I mean, I see stories all the time about dogs that eat a dozen golf balls or a pound of gravel, or rocks or laundry...and maybe it just builds up until he can't eat one more...the owners are always surprised...so I hate to say one way or the other...

If it was me, and my dog was hungry, I'd make VERY LIQUID rice and boiled chicken and give VERY SMALL amounts so that he doesn't eat fast...or you can hand-feed him small pieces of chicken and let him drink the broth with a little (very well cooked) rice.

Oh, Bogie...you are a stinker...please be well.

Jac, he hasn't had a BM today. But, as the vet said, there's nothing there to poop.
I'm not sure I agree with that. He usually poo's first thing every morning. Yes, it's after he eats........I feed him before he goes out. BUT! That food doesn't go through him that fast.

A blockage sure scares me. It's always been on my mind even after he vomited the wood chip. It seems to me his poops have got smaller too.

Well..........I called the vet and they basically said it's our call/ our dog as to whether we want to try the food.
They said if the stomach is upset, he will vomit again and it' s not getting better. It takes a fast to get them right.
I'm tempted to do as you said, Jac, just try a little...............I may do that now. I'm scared!

I gave it a try and so far so good. OMYGOSH! I hand fed him small tidbits and he devoured each with a wagging tail! Now he's looking for MORE MOM!!
If this stays down, I may do a tad more at around 10PM.

Oh Linda! You and Bogart are in our prayers! My only worry about feeding him much is how sore his tummy and throat might be from throwing up and will it cause his tummy to be even more sore? I know when Kevin's kids were small the Dr. said that they needed to give their systems a rest. I don't know anything about what is right or good for dogs. I would just caution being very sure anything he eats is very soft on his system. You follow what you feel is best and I am sure it will be the right thing. I believe in your instincts and common sense!!

So far so good! He has held it down.
Kathy, it was very soft and mushy.
I think I'll leave well enough alone for tonight. It's after 10PM and where I thought I might give him more.......I won't.........I don't think.
Poor guy. He wants to play and it's dark out and SKUNKY!!
He finally gave in and fell asleep.
GOD! I love him sooooooo much!!

Do you have another vet you could ask? Maybe a second opinion is in order?

Try not to worry...

Jac,
Things seem to be going well today, although still no poo's.
The vet we take Bogart to people travel from other states to see. In fact, when Bogart had his accident with the bleach, we were seeing another vet. They were awful! So, we went back to this one.
I trust them enough to know they're doing the right thing now. They're even open until 9PM and if overnight care is ever needed, they have people there 24/7.
I'm waiting for this poo to take place. It's like waiting for grass to grow! Once he dumps........lol...........we will feel better as I'm sure he will too!
AND........what's on the menu for the day? MORE chicken and rice!
