Default Asthma

Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers today. I have had asthma that just keeps getting worse. As soon as we can find an urgent care that is open on Sunday we are going to see about me getting a breathing treatment! I tried to go to sleep today and woke up with my asthma worse than ever and acid reflux! I am tired and my chest hurts so I am going to get help. I haven't had an attack this bad in a long time. Tia is trying to help but even though we cleaned her off she isn't helping things by trying to lay by my head!

Kathy, I am very sorry that you are struggling so...I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers...

Dave has severe asthma and he went to a nose/throat specialist who told him that acid reflux is sometimes a trigger for bad asthma...he is being treated for that and it helps...you might want to look into seeing someone about this, since one of your symptoms is acid reflux...I hope you are better soon...ask your husband to go to the store and buy the 75 mg zantac...and take two...I have been prescribed this for my condition so the doseage is safe, but large enough to help! I take this every night.

Thanks everyone! I am sorry I did not get back to you faster. I went to the Dr. and he said it is a virus made worse by my allergies. He said that right now the only thing to do was give me liquid Hydrocodone (sp?) mixed with a cough suppressant and wait it out. I said so basically you want me to wait it out and be comfortable (or in other words asleep)? He said yes. He did however tell me that if I get more wheezy or the cough becomes productive to come back because I would need a steroid. So now I wait it out.

Anyway thanks for your support!

kathy i sure hope your asthma alleviates soon........my son has bad asthma
In the past it was due to the DAve's dog in our home. My son kept getting sick and then severe asthma on a daily basis
ALL carpets got replaced but in end the dog Dog got rehomed, ...my son's asthma improved immensely and so did his health.

having a cold or virus will make it harder on asthma........exercise is limited during certain times of the year
and he does carry his inhaler around daily.
BUT i am wondering if your neice's dog is aggravating your asthma more than usual on TOP of having a virus???

I really do hope you start to improve soon!!!
and KATHY take the RX cough med , please....and JAC's advice is from experience as well.

Thanks everyone. I just slept half the day away so I am taking the Dr.s advice and the medicine. I am not having much contact with Malakai except to feed him. I feel bad because he doesn't understand why I avoid him, but I have to breathe.

I appreciate all of your support and well wishes. Thanks!

Hi Kathy,
I'm so sorry you are feeling so terrible. I too have asthma that is triggered when I get a virus. Jac's advice to you about the acid reflux is right on, it happens to ME too
taking a preventive med like zantac or pepcid will help you a lot

Thanks Liz. I take two pills for acid reflux but sometimes it isn't enough. The medicine that really works the insurance won't pay for. I am taking it easy and I am waiting for the Dr. to call me. I am waiting to see if I need more than cough syrup. I do appreciate you all and your support.

Thank you for asking how I am today! I just started on a antibiotic the Dr. prescribed for me. One of the side effects of this med is it makes acid reflux worse and you can get sick to your tummy on it. So far not having any more acid than normal. I am however nauseous from the pills. I am still coughing up stuff and feeling like I am breathing through jello. I think this is will take a long time to get over. I am going to spend some time in a hot shower to see if it will help. I will be in touch with my Dr. quickly if things get worse or I am not better in a few days.

Thanks again for caring!

Hi Kathy,
Are you feeling any better? When you feel better and have more energy, I'd suggest calling the insurance company and asking what the appeal process is for the med that does work well. I did this with mine and eventually got permission for a 1 yr supply, since the reflux was triggering my asthma. I had to outline for them what meds I did take and didn't work. I outlined this in writing for my doctor, because he was the one who had to file the appeal, so if you can make it easier for him, and streamline the process all the better. Also, you can ask the insurance co what other meds in the same category they WILL cover. You might find another strong one that helps. Good luck.
