Default Reverse Sneezing

We have mentioned reverse sneezing a time or two on this forum...I thought I'd post more info...

Here are some you-tube videos to show what reverse sneezing is:

Thank you Jac. I usually gently rub my dogs nose and it seems to stop. Maybe it just stops on its own, but it makes me feel better and I think the dogs do too.

Isn't this the same as a "collapsing Trachea"?

I don't think so, Judi, I think that the reverse sneezing is very common and caused by a number of triggers...when my dogs have had reverse sneezing it has had nothing at all to do with tightening or restricting devices around their necks...but I have not studied about tracheas...so if you have info that connects the two, I'd be interested to read it.

Kathy...that is what I do too...sometimes just by us remaining calm, they calm down and it seems to make it better...

Thanks, Judi, that is interesting...and it does say that they are not the same condition...but that they are very similar. I think that I understand the difference in sounds as Madison had it when she had a really, really bad case of Kennel Cough...she was tiny (8 weeks) and got so very sick...her cough never went away and the vet said that her hard coughing was hurting her trachea...she had that honking cough they mention...I am glad that it cleared up and has not come back!
It is a good idea to be aware of both and it sounds like it is very important to see the vet if there is any potential trachea problem.
It did seem that small breeds are more likely to have the trachea issues...I wonder if it has to do with the genetics of downsizing...
Interesting.

Judi, this made me wonder about the two conditions and I found this article that explains both, and the differences...pretty interesting...and certainly explains what Madison went through:

That was a good article Jac and Judi! Molly has done this in the past, and I never knew what it was! I also have a dear friend who has a pug that does this when he gets over excited...I'll pass this info on to her also!

Also wanted to note: a year ago i was on phone with ER and NOW this post confirmed PEANUT did NOT have reverse sneezing that night!
it now confirmed a severe allergic reaction that after I got her to vomit her contents she slowly improved every hour till the next day.

Between this forum, the articles and videos .............one can learn so much!!!

THANKS again for posting this!!!
I also have a post i have to find that i started as just a POST for LINKS, videos etc on things like choking and home ER treatement
if you can't get to a vet etc.
i will find it and add these aka revive the post or make a new one as jac and judi along with some other members
you've all lately been EXTREMELY helpful in first aid, illness/injuries etc and posting it for us to all learn from.
