Default new puppy

Hi I do not know alot about Labradoodles ....we are picking up our new puppy in about a week ...she will be 8 weeks old and she is beautiful....we have two smaller dogs ...I heard today from our groomer that Labradoodles are very high energy and very high maintanance ....she said she has groomed three different Labradoodles and the owners are not happy with them...I love my puppy already and just wanted some insight from other Labradoodle owners...thanks..Val

Just like kids, they're all different. They do need exercise and room to run, they're 1/2 lab! You'll love your baby! Just read some of the posts here and you'll see that most people are very happy with their choice!

I think it really varies from dog to dog. Most doodles I've met have been very goofy, playful and very very loveable! I think all puppies will be a bit nutty our nut Dexter has calmed down quite a bit (he's 2 yrs old), but others have said theirs have calmed down so much by 8-12 months old.

Grooming requirements also vary - is your puppy a F1 (poodle x lab), F1B (Poodle x F1 labradoodle), etc? Dexter is a F1B and we get him professionally groomed every 2-4 months. Most F1s from what I hear require very little to no grooming.

Can't wait to see photos of the little doodle!!

Val...your picture of your ADORABLE new doodle puppy should show up in your post now.

when you're on photobucket, highlight the Img code beneath the picture
you can left click it, hit Ctrl and C button this copies it

then come back to this box and paste it by hitting Ctrl/ V buttons at same time

And per my pm......doodles are great dogs but they do need some OB training as it teaches them basic manners/commands
stimulate their minds as they are VERY INTELLIGENT dogs and also some doodles have more laid back personalities

as far as grooming goes: try using a soft brush on your puppy after the 1st week, a puppy will try to bite it, or play with it
totally normal and may take 2 -3 weeks to get used to it, same with baths etc. It also preps them if you want to bring them to groomer's.

Best thing to do with mac is dump their mouse, get a generic laser mouse with a scrolling wheel and left/right click buttons. That's what I did....love my mac......hate the mouse that comes with it. Their keyboards are better though......

Oh yeah.....welcome to you and your adorable pupple!!

Congrats on your new puppy. You are in for more fun than you can imagine. Is it easy in the beginning? NO....it is a lot of work...just ready Denver's and his mom's post about Ryder. Is it worth it...YES, every night of not getting enough sleep, everything they chew ( remotes, blackberries, shoes...what ever), their love and goofiness makes it all worthwhile.

Like Annmarie says, getting them use to being brushed helps. There are many different doodle coats...some easier to maintain than others. Some groomers are better than others too, especially with doodles.

You can use the search feature up in the dark blue area at top and find dozens of discussions regarding their grooming.

Again welcome and can't wait to see more pictures and have you named her yet?

I think I'm in love!!! Welcome to you both...she is absolutely adorable, and I'd like to respond to the following...

We have had dogs for the past 32 yrs as our companions...a Bassett Hound, a Shepard/Collie cross, 2 Old English Sheepdogs, a standard Poodle and last but not least, Raleigh our beloved Labradoodle! Doodles are the most loving, most giving, funniest, and goofiest dog
that anyone could ever want....yes, Gracie will put you thru the mill the first year, but with the proper training (and even without) you'll be ever so glad that you did get her! I wish you the best of luck, and can't wait to see her pics.

WELCOME VAL!!
Gracie is really adorable!!! You're gonna love her for sure!!
I have found brushing Bogart daily really helps. I don't see him as particularly high maintenance. High energy? Yep! But we manage quite well with walks and lots of attention.
Doodles are simply the best!
OH! Do get some training set up. I just feel training is a must for any dog.
