Thanks everyone....I am wondering if anyone has had this problem with any of their puppies.....Gracie is chewing at the tops of her feet so bad that she is missing hair there and they are kinda raw...also chewing on her tail and crotch area...we had her at the vet for her 12 week shots and he says she is too young he thinks for allergies ....wants to wait a bit to see if she outgrows this before really doing any testing ...he says it may be her reaction to being separated from her mother and siblings ....he says to wait at least another month just to see if she quits on her own....not sure what to do....

I had Ryder on raw chicken when he was 9 weeks old and I noticed he developed the itchies in the areas you describe .
I quit the raw chicken and all the itching stopped, so I do believe food or alergies can start very young. Ryder still gets raw just not chicken for now............You could try eliminating foods one at a time to see if you notice any differences and or consult with another vet............. Sometimes detergent, as in what you wash their blankets with etc can be the problem too..........Good luck and keep us updated. |

Hi Val, Your puppy is gorgeous. I'm sure you've had a lot of feedback regarding the comment from your groomer but I'll give you mine as well My Lab-Dood turned 1 on Halloween and I couldn't be any more happy with him. His is very much into chewing.....anything....a tree, our deck you name it but I found that if I made sure that he has a big Ham bone to work on he will finish that before turning his attention to everything else. Outside of the chewing, there isn't a negative with this breed in my experience....albeit breif. I hope that you are loving your choice of puppies as much as I am. Have a safe and happy holiday season. Kevin

Welcome! you're new puppy is absolutely gorgeous....I wish I could give her a cuddle! As to the grooming -- I have an F1 and we shave him down about twice a year -- I think he looks like a greyhound for awhile after we do it and it makes him so soft.....I love all his looks though from super hairy to almost bald. Mine loves water, so he gets lots of baths which he loves! Good luck with your new addition!

Hi Val,
I am not from there, but you might want to ask your vet and the office staff there. Usually people with businesses like that advertise through the vet offices and most often they know of them and can give you info about them. Call a few and ask for references, go and visit...take your dog in for a day visit and see how he likes it...and just drop in on them a few times to check it out, unannounced... Good luck...sorry that your caretaker is hurt...maybe she knows of someone? What about asking at your local market or church or school...you know, just ask around...maybe you can find someone to come and stay at your home with him...good luck! |

Thanks .....yes we did ask the vet and the names of the kennels he recommended are full ......iI am so stressed right now ...we are supposed to leave on the 2nd and have no where to leave my dogs....we found one kennel that had room ...but they lock the dogs in a kennel 24/7 unless you pay them $6.00 per dog every time they take them out of the kennel for any kind of exccersise...I cannot leave my dogs in a place like that as I don't think they would see the outside of the kennel whether I paid them to walk them or not :S

How about hiring a neighbor to stay with them? Or a local teen? Is there someone you trust? Maybe check the 4H to see if anyone would like a job caring for them or someone in the community you have not yet considered...students, people who work for your vet?

Welcome Val and Gracie. Gracie is soooooo very cute. As others have mentionsed every doodle is different just like kids. I think MOST puppes are a bit hyper ans need to get through that stage. Our doodle Oliver calmed down at around the 8-12 month mark. He is now a year and a 1/2 and most people are quite amazed at how well behave he is and calm. He has is puppy moments stll (and I might add I love those goofy times). At a year and a 1/2 he is much more engaged with people. The best thing that I find as a doodle owner is enroll in a great obedience class SOON as puppy is okayed after shots etc by the vet. Socialize, socizlize, socialize! Get her used to people and other dogs by going to off leash parks and taking her with you werever you go that you are able to. Exercise, exercise, exercise! We walk Oliver everyday or have someone walk him if we arfe not able to do to long day at office etc. Doodles are smart dogs and need the stimulation and exercise that walking provides.
On grooming, I will admit, Ollie is a bit of medium matainence when it comes to grooming. He is a multigen doodle, with a fleece coat that will get badly matted ig not upkept. My husband and I are not realy diligent about the grooming, so we have elected to invest in this area and have Ollie bath and tidied at the groomers every 6 weeks. This is costly, but worth it to us. We also keep him clipped in a 3/4 inch to 1 inch teddy bear cut. This length seems to be most manageable. Doodles arfe wonderful dogs. Have fun with your new bundle of cuddles.
