Hi
I've just recently joined the forum after adopting a 10 month old labradoodle formerly known as Shaggy now known as Millie! So here's our long-winded introduction (well mine, Millie's a little faster with a juste mot!) She is really bowling us over with how fantastic she is! She was rehoused because she became too expensive - needed speying and registering - for a fashion accessory. ' I had to drive for 2 hours to collect her from a friend of the former owner and when it was time to put her in the car I discovered she only came with her beautiful self - no lead; no brushes; no bowls; no current food; nothing! The drive back was an experience! The poor doll obviously thought 'Here we go again!' so huffed and puffed for an hour and then threw up her stomach contents - the sausage the temporary home had given her just before i arrived. This involved a stop-off in small town New Zealand to buy cleaning supplies and a lead. She's fitted in beautifully but still finds the car a trial - we are trying to make it a positive experience and hopefully she'll learnt car=fun not car=another home. She's off for speying on Tuesday so that probably won't be a positive car experience but it beats having to fight off amorous male dogs! (my opinion - probably not shared by Millie). :P I had been skeptical about all the positive things I'd heard about labradoodles but have found that it is true - they are the most wonderful dog if you give them the input they need. Definitely beauty AND brains. The funniest thing I've seen was Millie watching OH load the dishwasher - she watched each step and would tilt her head to study what he was doing - you could almost be convinced she was learning how to do it - now that would be a useful trick! Nic and Millie - the artist formerly known as Shaggy

Welcome to a close neighbour. We've been to your beautiful country many times.
Thanks for adopting your doodle. They are such loving and smart dogs. They train so easily and are a joy to have around. Our two love the car. We started off with short little trips. Even just up and down the driveway. You are on the right track with the positive experience. Oh, by the way, has anyone told you we love photos???

Thanks everyone for such a warm welcome. We had a car ride yesterday with no drooling and no barfing - so that's progress! There was still a fair amount of huffing and puffing but I can cope with that! We went to an off-leach area and she met lots of dogs - she preferred the 'slipper dogs' to the labs and GSDs although a Rhodesian Ridgeback did get her attention!
Here are a few photos - one shows her half and half fur and one shows her with my 6 year old which gives an idea of her size (she's 19.6kg) ![]() ![]() ![]()
