Default Hello I'm new

Hello,
I'm new to this forum. Our family recently lost our Beautiful 8 yr. old Lab to cancer. We miss him terribly and know he can never be replaced. Just thought I'd check out what people are saying about this new breed called Labradoodles. Eventually we'd lke to adopt or rescue an older puppy. I have two other mix breed dogs, our princess is a 12 year old pekingnese mix who might not appreciate another puppy since she has already put up with so much. Our other dog is a basenji mix who is a bundle of energy! Kind of like a pogo stick! But our Lab has left such a huge hole in my heart. He was my boy! Toby would run next to me on my bike and was such a great camp dog. My kids are now grown and off to college and I think my mothering instincts are trying to find an outlet. And yes I probably have too much tiem on my hands. sorry if I've gone on!

hello Shelly and soooooooo sorry to hear of your loss of your beloved dog.

many of us will say a Labradoodle is awesome, friendly, follows you around better than peter pan's shadow, highly intelligent, soooo sweet, comical, easily trained, Usually low shedders to some being non shedding.

need i say more? okay some of us have to have MORE than one.
I have a black f1 labradoodle and cream/apricot goldendoodle.

they're my babies and really did bring my family closer together.

NEXT!

Welcome!! If you are looking for a wonderful companion dog, Doodles rule. And this forum is a great place to get info and meet nice people who are willing to help with everything!

Many of the breeders who post here are in California so you should be able to find the right dog for you. And there is a wonderful organization called, IDOG, which helps rehome Doodles. They may be able to help you find an older dog that will be a perfect fit.

Best of luck and keep reading. This place is filled with great info and wonderful people!

Hello Shelley,

Welcome to this most interesting forum. Twelve months ago we suffered the loss of our adored male standard poodle. We still owned his sister and she was lonely so, after much research, I nervously decided to buy a labradoodle puppy mainly because they, like poodles, don't have a doggy smell, have non-shedding coats and require minimal grooming compared to the poodle. Previous to the poodles we had a golden retriever and although she was a nice dog for our children she shed heavily and, compared to poodles and labradoodles, did not have the same intelligence or personality.

Our first labradoodle (4th generation) is now 8 months old and, because a few weeks back we lost our other poodle, we now also have his younger brother. I couldn't be happier with our new dogs. I believe that one day the labradoodle will be the most popular dog around because it has so many good points and minimal bad. However, you must choose your breeder carefully as there are some who are just mating labs to poodles and hoping for the best, which sadly doesn't always happen.

Until these labradoodles we have always owned "pure bred" dogs. I would advise you to take no notice of pure breeders who are calling labradoodles mutts. They are obviously not talking from personal experience and are therefore prejudiced.

Hi Shelly,

I am so sorry for the loss of your companion. I too can relate. I had to put down my 12 year chocolate lab almost two years ago. She had cancer too. I really just didn't think I would ever get over her. I live alone and after a year I just couldn't stand how quite my house was.
I absolutely love labs and always will but I was told by many not to get another one because I would always compare. As you know labs shed like crazy and I was always vacuuming my house. I had heard of the labradoodle and the non shedding trait attracted me. I began my research and finally got my Annie in May. She is the most amazing puppy. I absolutely love her to pieces and I cannot say eneough about the breed. My advice to you would be to research and there is no better place than right here on this sight. It is a wonderful testament to the breed. In addition, there are some highly respected breeders on this site that would be happy to help you.

I wish you a very warm welcome and good luck in your search,

Leah

Default Thank you what a wonderful welcome

You are all so kind and nice. When we get our puppy older or young, this one is going to be for me. All of our past dogs (we've had four, only 3 at once) were picked for other family members. Now that the kids are grown, this one is going to be all mine!
