Default Hello/Free Dog-sitting in Chicago area (1 mo.+)

Hello! Going on an extended vacation? Spending time abroad? We would love to care for your Labradoodle for 1 month to 1 year -- for free! Why? We were on the verge of getting our own dog when we found out through testing that our daughter has a mild dog allergy. By caring for your dog in our Chicago-area home, we will find out whether we can have a Labradoodle of our own one day. Your dog must be F1B or successive generation, OK with kids, housebroken, and enjoy long walks and lots of love! No boarding fee, only the cost of dog food, and grooming/vet care, if necessary. Please email a.goldwasser@comcast.net for more information.

Awwww.....Alissa! That is very sweet!
Yet, being a moderator here, it's my job to make sure that if people take you up on this, that they would get to know you first. Your intentions sound WONDERFUL and so does your reasoning with your daughter. But, if someone were to leave their doodle with you and say go abroad......and your daughter became allergic, what would you do with the doodle?
Plus, you should, for your protection and the owners, have a lawyer draw up a contract that covers all aspects of dog sitting.
This is a huge responsibility, ya know?
For example, my doodle has thousands of dollars of training in him. I'd want to know you and be sure things would be absolutely perfect.
Just sayin'.

I agree completely, Linda. We would want to spend time with the owner and the dog before making any arrangements and a contract would serve both an owner and us well. If we make a committment to care for a dog for a period of time that is what we would do. If our daughter began to react to the dog, there are measures we could take to make her more comfortable including medication, making her room off-limits, and having her interact less with the dog. We are excited about providing this unusual opportunity for Labradoodle owners. We believe it will be an excellent arrangement for the dog, the owner, and our family.
