Default Meet Sage & Kim

Hi Everyone,

My name is Sage! I am an Australian Labradoodle & I will be 12 weeks old tomorrow.

Right now I'm chewing on the stinkiest bully stick ever, but my new mommy, Kim, doesn't mind because she knows I am content

I've only been in my new home for 10 days & I'm doing very well, except for my normal puppy-over-excitement... where I tend to lose my mind & forget all of my manners.

When I am calm, I sit for my food, water & toys, sit and wait to have my paws wiped off after I come in from outside, lay down when asked & I'm learning to play fetch & drop the ball when asked.
I can also sleep in my crate all night for 8 hours without whining or accidents.

Kim works here at home, so when she leaves I get a little scared, hopefully I can learn to be happy & entertain myself constructively when I am alone.

Thanks everyone for this great forum. Knowledge is the best training & Kim needs to be trained to be smarter than me

Hi Kim and Sage!! Sage, you are soooo cute!! Reminds me of Molly at that age. I have found that her "overexcited puppyness" hasn't gone away yet!! She is getting better with lots of training, and her one year birthday is today! I love this dog but I still meet people who say the excitedness doesn't get better....and it's due to the Lab in her. Anyhow, Sage is just adorable and glad you're here.

Hi Judy,
Thank you for the welcome!

I have been consistently rewarding calm behavior the past couple of days and it has made a huge difference so far.

Her biggest problem is with my husband, who is away at work all day. I'm not certain she regards him as a pack leader yet and she is often jumping up & nipping at his pant legs when he is here, which only exasperates her own excitement. Because his time with her is so limited, it is difficult for him to be as consistent as I have been.

He has seen the difference my persistent effort has made so far, so I think that he is becoming more conscious about how he needs to work with her.

As they say "It's the humans who need to be trained, not the dog"

Thanks again & Happy Birthday Molly

WELCOME TO OUR FORUM KIM & SAGE!!

Sage......you are just TOOO CUTE!!........and it sounds like you are such a gooooood doodle!
I seem to be able to allow those stink bully sticks too! Yet, we have a pet store near us that "UN-stinkifies" them but they are so expensive! Sometimes it's just worth it though because .....omygosh!........they can smell up a house!

Looking forward to hearing and seeing more of the 2 of you!

Hi lindamarie,
Thank you for the welcome!

I ended up throwing away the stinky bully stick, it was putrid, & for my own sanity it had to go.

Sage is our first puppy, so we've had no prior experience with bully sticks (We had a good laugh when we found out where they came from!)- The first ones we purchased had no odor at all, so we just figured they were all the same... lesson learned!

Thanks again. We look forward to talking more.

b.t.w. - I grew up in Birmingham! Great city

Thumbs up

Hi MaxandMe,
Thank you for the welcome!

Doodles are so smart and I am awestruck everyday how quickly she learns.
(LOL- sorry I had to stop & laugh- she was barking like crazy in her sleep - she rarely barks when she is awake.)
Only yesterday she learned to fetch and drop the ball (rather haphazardly in my vicinity), already today she has learned to drop the ball in my hand

I do have some questions about separation anxiety, which you may have some good suggestions, since you were a stay at home puppy mom also. I will post in the 'Questions About Your Labradoodle'.

We don't have children, she is our first and only child - so there will be lots of pictures Although, she tends to frown when the camera is pointed at her.

Thanks again & I look forward to talking again soon!!
